Anyone out there have any pics of their modified intercooler piping? Just wanted to see what mandrel bends were used, etc. since the old hacked up one I have is coming out next week when the head is off. Any pics or info would be great since I have a week before teardown.

Thanks in advance,

Isn't the vnt intercooler plumbing the same as t2? The turbo is in the same place, and the intercooler is roughly the same..?

Ya, should be but I haven't seen many that have posted pics (or maybe I am blind, one of the two) or with any indea on the bends, etc.

Was told to keep the stock rubber secion that runs off the turbo and run the mandrel bent pipe. I am guessing I would need a 45, a 90, and maybe a straight, etc., maybe some 2 1/4 silicone hose, silicone connectors, etc. But I just don't want to blindly throw money away on stuff I don't need. Basically enough to do the lower intercooler line, upper, and cone filter.

Unless you want to keep correcting little leaks here and there I would suggest running the stock type of plumbing for the intercooler hook up. I am even running a DSM 1G blow off on mine yet have the stock hoses and pipes. I welded the 1G blow off right where the stocker outlet was on the factory pipe. You have to remember that unless you use dang near solid mounts all the way around our engines tend to move a lot so flexablity is key here. A TII set up should be able to fit our car but will need some adapting since we have 90 specific plumbing on our cars. I have not yet seen a 90 TII and do not think one was factory produced even by mistake. If no one has any pics readily available I will try to get some taken by friday and at least send you them, granted it will not be totally stock looking. LOL.

well I don't have stock plumbing now. The airbox was taken out and a BOV was added to the upper pipe. The lower pipe is a hacked up one from a Shelby daytona that was fitted with an inner pipe about 5 inches long to join the 2 rubber hose sections together. Touch the gas and the clamps let go since there are not any beads on the metal section.

I am not looking for the stock setup anymore since I sold mine, just an idea of what bends, connectors to use with the stock intercooler. I wont upgrade to a larger intercooler fora couple of months but for now I need to get through this so the car wont run like crap.

I run a stock TII rubber hose for the lower.

For the upper I run a 12" metal pipe with a DSM BOV and 2 short rubber ones on the ends.

I run a stock TII hose to the turbo with a 6" S&B open filter.

I don't think a guy really needs pics. The bottom hose is just a stock t2 hose, which is rubber and molded to go over the transmission and hit the IC and the turbo in stock position. The top hose on a VNT is like any other hose, as it is just a straight piece that goes from the IC to the TB. If you get a piece of exhaust pipe from pepboys or whatever your local crappy auto parts store is, and a piece of radiator hose in the right size to go over the IC and the TB and attach on each side of the pipe, you can weld your BOV on there, if you so wish.

As to the air intake, you can do whatever you want! I used a 2.5 t1 intake hose for mine, and just ran a cone over to where my battery used to be.

well maybe I have a fubar setup then since it's a stock lower T-2 setup and it won't connect right. That is why the connector pipe was used on the bottom intercooler line. The upper is not a big deal, since it had the BOV and I just want to swap it to the lower pipe and have it all 1 welded piece.

Do you have a Shadow or Daytona/Lebaron? If you have a Shadow that is why the T2 lower hose won't work.

The lower intercooler inlet is different on a Shadow than the Daytona/LeBaron.

I'm actually using a VNT LeBaron intercooler that is why the lower T2 hose works.

You might check to see if a '87 CSX, '87 Shelby Lancer, or '89 CSX VNT hose will work for you.

I know from past experience the 89 hose won't work. Not sure on the Lancer/CSX.

You know, you're right. I totally forgot that my VNT had a hard pipe going over the tranny.

DUR! Sorry for the bad ideas.

it's ok

I talked to Mike @ Forward Motion and he gave me all the sizes and bends, etc. to put the lower pipe together:

2- 45 deg 2 1/2 bend

2- 2 1/2 turbo coupler to pipe

1- 3 inch long intercooler hose

1- 2 1/2 to 2 1/4 reducer

3- 3 inch T-bolt clamps

1- 2 1/4 T-bolt clamp

1 -2 1/2 T-bolt clamp

This is just for the stock intercooler. he said either of the legs on the 45 deg bends may need some light trimming but should go together pretty easy.
