I happend to read somebody's post about this issue and I am just making sure. If this car has balance shafts, is the removal the same as from a 2.5 block.

Can anyone come up with a negative effect of this modification?

If there is a good explanation about this mod please link.

It does have balance shafts, only 8V 2.2 that has them. People say there is a horsepower gain from removal, but at high RPM, and how often are you operating the car at that RPM to gain the power and use it vs. the smoother operation with the shafts in place?

some have said they noticed it get a bit rougher with out them others havent noticed any ill effects.
i have only removed one from my cars and my main concern is the way the oil sloshes around afterwards and how you lose oil pressure on hard turns.
i suggest if you are going to do it, add a crank scraper and go to a 2.2 pan(obviously the pan wont be a problem for you, it was for my 2.5)

the oil pressure is more important than the 7-15hp gain

I removed mine a couple of years ago. Yes, these was more vibration, especially at idle. I also put on a T2 pan and pickup at the same time, so some of the noise may have come form the t2 pan.

I sit here all the time and listen to this issue in multiple groups. people complain about loss of oil pressure due to slosh. Gee, what about loss of oil pressure due to these junk balance shafts failing? What about the crap oil the shaft assemlies retain during an oil change? What about the extra metal shavings they add to the oil? I for one choose to have cleaner oil and better pressure, at the expense of making a windage tray and tolerating a little vibration.

i agree, it is better to remove it but only if you can do it right the first time.
