I know its a rare car and all , so im just wondering if any one can give me any helpful information about them, like reliability, as well as performance modification, and wether or not i can put a BOV on it. ive done the research ta find that its intercooler flows faster then a T2 but not as cool, and since i just happen to have a T2 intercooler i was thinking of putting that on instead. im also wondering whats a safe boost to be running at on these turbo engines , i was hoping for 20psi

ANY INFO WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED

Thanks

20 is way out of this turbo's league, 16 is safe, also i belive the ICs are the same as the T2's, and yes you can mount a BOV on just like any turbo.

the VNTs came stock with a BOV in the airbox. and the VNT IC(also known as the INDY IC) does flow better but doesnt cool as well as a T2 IC.

The 90 VNT cars had the BOV in the airbox, the 89 CSX's did not (it was a standard 89 TII airbox). Not sure what year you have?

I don't know where you guys got your info on the VNT intercooler, but the Chrysler engineers I know that were involved in those engines/cars claim the VNT intercooler (at least the one in the 90 Daytona) is far more restrictive than a T2 intercooler. A T2 intercooler will flow more air and cool better than the stock intercooler in my 90 VNT Daytona Shelby. It looks nothing like any of the MP or Indy intercoolers I have seen.

I am not familiar with the intercooler used in the 89 CSX-VNT at all though, and have never heard any reference to that one's performance.

If you put a 90 vnt cooler next to a t2 cooler you will notice the vnt is the same except that it is one cooling row narrower. 10% less capacity (so long as the tubes are the same). The length and depth are the same. I have not cut one open to count the fins inside.

Barry... 5D told me that the VNT intercooler is far more restricive than the
T-II cooler like you mentioned, but the VNT intercooler has a better thermal efficiency due to more internal fins (which is what created the greater pressure drop in the 1st place) This was done to keep the VNT's high charge temps under control, unfortunately at the expense of airflow.

I swapped my VNT IC for an Audi 10V unit, which is known for it's horrible flow, and it seems to be giving me a bit more power, so I'm assuming that if the Audi unit flows better, that the stock unit is very restrictive.

The stock BOV is on the airbox in 1990 cars, and it isn't bad for stock boost level applications. That said, I wouldn't use it over 13PSI, and if you want to run 20psi you'll need a VNT28.

Best bet with the VNT is to run a boost controller and upgrade your exhaust (need to control the overspooling), a large well placed intercooler that has a low pressure drop, and a good cold air induction (biggest performance boost I had was from CAI).
