What kind of boost should I be getting on my 90 VNT Daytona? It is mostly stock but has a T2 intercooler and 2.5 exhaust all the way back into a magnaflow muffler with no cat. Right now I'm getting between 10 and 12 pounds but I was wondering if I should be getting more because on another thread there was someone wining about only 10-12. I thought this was ok, but now I wonder.

im only getting 8-10 in my vnt car..but i dont rev it to 5500 so im not sure if its limited by the computer liek the t2 cars.. or sometimes itll spike to 14 and settle at 8.. is your turbo loud.. i was told itll whistle when cold before warm up.. but after it was warmed up and i drove 20 miles to work it was getting pretty loud as i got into boost..hopefully the turbo isnt going bad.. i was told it was rebuilt.. if it does i might as well convert it to t2 status and get a good garret.. but that means ill have to sell the interior to afford it.. as im broke.. i tihnk ill park it when i get home today for the week until i can find a solution

Mine only boosts about 10-12psi in first and second, and usually pulls more in
the upper gears, sometimes around 14-15psi in 3rd. As far as I know it is all
stock.

Stock is 12psi but it will spike alittle then go down and then sometimes it will creep up after if your exhaust is opened up.My VNT will jump to 14 then go down to 12 steady but sometimes in 3,4 or 5 it creeped up to 18 before cut-out depending on the weather.

thanks for answering my question. And to answer a question I saw, my turbo was quiet until I got the 2.5 exhaust, then it started sounding like a cummins, lol. It got much louder after the exhaust, but I like it.

Mine is 2.5 straight back into a ravin exhaust in the back and it gets pretty loud once the boost comes on too but not to loud,it's more of a deep growl.Although I didn't get to feel the difference because this was done before I had the new motor/turbo.

Thx for confirming the boost levels ironbird720, now I feel better about my car, I
did'nt know if that was normal. Mine has pegged the guage in 3rd before depending
on the weather, it will spike like you said, then creep down.
Dirk.

Should be an issue. Shouldn't make any sounds save for a nice smooth "whine."

I have a '89 CSX and all I have is the stock 2.5 exhaust with a Flow Tech Red Hots glasspack in the place of the cat. At WOT, I get about 15-17 psi. I've driven the car with several different boost gauges and I get an average of 17psi max. But I want MORE!!!! lol Will.....you know I want that S60VNT or at least the VNT28. I hope you maybe put it on ebay. I have a VNT25 for spare maybe I can get lucky like you and score another S60VNT. hahahaha

Well......I thought that I was gonna get a cal for my 2.5 engine but with all the delays etc from the companies, I don't get the FULL benefits of my S60 VNT. Although it's a very nice upgrade even over the VNT28, I may end up getting out of VNT's <gulp>. Yep, and it's sad that it's not even because of a performance stand point; I just like things to work correctly, and having my tires break loose from the pavement in second gear all the time isn't as fun as I thought! LOL Funny thing is, with the 2.5 it pulls HARD to 20lbs, and that's with no control over the VNT vanes. I can tell because after a hard boost run, the vanes are open, and when I give it gas again, there's a nice big bang of boost and I'm gripping the #ell out of my steering wheel.

Actually my VNT28 has been for sale for a while, and I just may sale the S60 VNT. But I don't do the Ebay thing, it's more of a "money talks-first come, first serve basis," unless I've already made prior arrangements. I know many have shown interest but money talks.

Anyway, on topic of the thread. As long as your "stock" boost isn't below 12psi and not above 14/15psi after settling down, you're fine. Large spikes (to 18-20psi) and low boost (8-10 psi) indicates problems.

Well, the thing is that your gonna get as much money as the person is willing to spend for the turbo. If money is not an option for the next guy, then I'm not get a turbo, lol.

Well, while that statement is partially true, what I mean is this. When I say it's for sale, then people will say "oooh-ooooh, me,me,me!" LOL But when I say send the money, then it's "oh, can you wait until x-date and time." Now I'm a really flexible person and understand that everyone doesn't have a box full of money just laying around and I don't mind waiting a couple of days, but when a person says they want it just to "hold" it will only dely and then if they can't come up with the money then what?

The VNT28 is a fine addition to any VNT powered car. The S60 just adds a bit of testosterone to the mix.

mani have issues already.. 3 so far.. low boost and other noise.. and loud turbo whine.. i was told the turbo makes noise if not warmed up all the way.. but after a 20 miles drive to work it still made the nosie and the car was plenty warmed up by then...i guess the t2 conversion will come sooner than i thought

A turbo, VNT or not, doesn't need "warming up" per se. As long as there's good oil/coolant flow (coolant as applicable), and it's in good shape, it should be ready at all times.

If you're hearing noises and you have low boost, that may be an indication that your turbo is sick and may need a shot. Your bearings may be on their way out. Have you checked for shaft play? The whine shouldn't be too loud, just nice enough to get people's attention.
