Went to the EZ Pic-N-Pull for something totally non-related and ended up coming home with a DOHC 2.0 16-valve head off of (I think) an Avenger (the engine was laying on the ground in front of the Avenger). Looking at it, the intake and exhaust ports are reverse of all the heads in these posts. I searched the stickys and all the web sites and have found no info on this head. My understanding is that it will work, just have to reverse manifolding. Casting is 1994 and the water outlet is on the proper side. Input appreciated.

They used that head in the 95-99 eclipse/talon along w/ the Sebring and Avenger. I'm sure you can reverse them but I'd try asking on 2gnt.com to be sure. Ive accually thought abought using this head if I do a hybrid and run the turbo upfront and run the distibutor off the cam. It would be tight in an Lbody that way but a G or P body would do ok I think.

honestly i wouldnt mind haveint he turbo sit in from of the motor. be alot easier to upgrade it or rebuild it. i know you would have to find away to run the eaxaust. or just dump it. we had an avenger in the shop today and i was looking at the manfolds on the oppisite side. prett sure you can make it work as the other 2.0's have the same block

I've got the same head. It bolts right on to the 2.0/2.4 Neon/Stratus blocks. The only difference is the intake and exhaust ports are swapped front to rear. All the other head hardware is the same (valves, lifters, followers, cams, etc.). I'm going to use that head on my 2.4 NA engine. I think it'll be easier to put a long-tube header on the front of the engine than in the rear...

so you CAN use the left-handed 2.0l DOHC heads on our blocks???

if so that will make things a lot easier for me.

Yes - same issues as the standard Neon head, though...

Thanks for the input, guys. I grabbed the head out of convenience, and the fact that I have been tossing around the idea of doing a hybrid. Once I got it home, I came here to brush up on the process. That's when it hit me that something was different. At least I didn't waste the $$ and time getting it.

would you have to run DIS? I can't imagine the cap rotor and wires living with the exhuast manifold and turbo directly above them

You'd just have to mount the distributor on where the cam sensor was. On a regular DOHC 2.0/2.4 it'd be on the intake cam, not sure if they switch it's location on the reversed head or not.

Are you talking about indexing at TDC? If I remember right, the 2.0 cams are indexed the same at TDC (keyways at same spot on each one), while the 2.4 cams are 180* off from eachother (1 keyway at top, 1 at bottom). Correct me if I'm wrong someone.

On the reversed (420a) head, the cam sensor is on the exhasut cam - or, in the same location (on the head) as the Neon/PT head. IE, left front corner...
