Im thinking about doing a 16v swap on my duster and i was just wondering if there's a reason that most of you guys are running the 8v distributor vs the cam driven one off the neon?

Stock block mounted one is just easier for me, work's so
I didnt change it. Normaly a Neon would use coilpack's so
running a dist off cam is something you would make for
yourself to retain stock electronic's.

The original reason people mounted the dist on head was
so they could use a stock 2.4 intake, hangs down and
would hit dist.

Or if you can find a stock SRT-4 intake, it'll clear the dist. in stock location if you don't want to make your own intake.

After reading some of the threads on here i think i may end up getting a sds stand alone engine management systen I was thinkin this one would work best for my aplication:

"The 4F system, shown above, controls fuel delivery and ignition timing on 4 cylinder engines to 9750 rpm (15,000 optional). Its crank triggered, direct fire coil pack replaces both distributor type and OEM distributorless ignitions. It is programmable in 250 rpm increments with 64 boost retard locations available for turbocharged engines and ignition retard under nitrous activation.

The standard F delivers a powerful, long duration spark and is suitable on engines with specific power outputs of up to 200hp/liter. With the addition of an MSD DIS, power levels can exceed 400hp/liter. The 4F comes complete with coils and crank trigger. Fabrication of a crank sensor mount and installation of trigger magnets is required.

Base system prices USD: 4F as shown above- $1311, 4F for MSD DIS-2 no coils or driver $1148, 4F to drive OE waste spark coil pack $1238

The only question i have about this is does the last one in bold allow use of the stock neon coil packs or do all 3 versions come with their own coil packs?

The SDS system is built to exactly what you want, if you have coilpack's
they will tailor sytem for your need's. Its not realy a ready to ship box
you will need to supply a lot of info from INJ size to resistance value's.

There system is based around GM electronics but will fire any coilpack
or single coil you choose with there pre programed setup. The $1311
system is the only one that comes with the coilpack, the $1238 drives
your coil/coils depending on what you tell them. There are other options
you will want to add like knock sensor (GM style is what they use).
