Wondering if anyone out there runs the 16v w thermostat at trans end of cylinder head ? I was looking at MLS gasket and noticed that the steam holes get progressively larger from Timing belt end to trans end , I guess it's so that most of the coolant circulates thru block then throught head , I don't know but I am wondering how that would affect thermal cycling of the engine assm, putting stat at trans end of head ?

Dont sweat the steam hole's, have gone so far as to drill
out holes...no help. Head and EGT temps run very even
with the stagerd arangment. Check out the coolant nipple
thread just bellow this, will help your concerns.

I'm not worrried about the steam holes ,mainly weather is it better to run t-stat at intake provision, Or a t-stat on the side of cylinder head, i did this to my 8 valve head and wondered if it works for our 16v setup , I would like to loose the tstat by the timing belt, better for clearance issues.

That pic shows t-stat at trans end of head, head has
lots of room to mount it there. Like you I have gotten
used to it being there...just looks right

edit: just looked again, you can see t-stat housing nipple
not the t-stat. Like the 8v head use the frost plug as a
reference and die grind open to fit stock 8v t-stat.
