Yes, the regular sohc head would be an improvement over a stock 8v head. But, the magnum head is different on the exhaust side. You will spend some serious cash to get a regular sohc head to flow what a magnum does stock. port both and the magnum will destroy the sohc on the exhaust. Intake side is the same. Magnum heads will have R/T cast into them by the thermostat housing on the front of the motor on passenger side. If someone wants to host the pictures for me, I'll send you some via email to post here. You can see the intake, header and I'll shoot some of the ports and show the difference between magnum and sohc. And show where I am using feed and return lines.

I am planning on stuffing one of those 16v mini monsters in my 87 horizon, but I need alot of detailed help on the timing belt and how to set it up with the single cam 16v head.My plan is to shorten the horizon by removing the rear passenger section of the car and putting a fuel cell in the spare tire space.I am currently putting in a 2.2 turbo I got out of a t-roofed 87 shelby-z daytona that ran fine when I gutted it(4 $100 bucks!).Please gimme info with pictures so I can make this happen!

andre, do have any pictures of the ports of the magnum? I am curious to see there shape and angle into the combustion chamber.

I do not have a magnum head, I just swiped a plain sohc head from a neon.
But I am keeping detailed pics and notes of the head swap ,so that other people can have better access to the information on how to do a proper sohc 16v mod.But I really need access to info on the parts and materials used in the swap.My biggest issue is the timing belt and how to make the cam gear so that it all hooks up.

SO PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!ANYBODY!!!!!!!

I'm trying to finish moving to a new house and shop. I will send the pics of what I have so far and you can see what all is needed. If you get the magnum head, try to get the header so you can use the exhaust flange on it. You can run your your return lines below your exhaust manifold. You'll see when I get the pics sent out. I'm still working on the DVD or CD rom video. I'll try to cover every aspect of this swap as well. If you are not running the stock dist, then you can use the intake from the Magnum as well and use a rpm switch to open the secondary runners in the intake. The stock magnum intake is pretty cool.

So I pulled a 110k mile SOHC head from the yard, the exhuast ports are TINY! Do they really flow more than the 8V head? I suppose the extra valves in there help no matter what... Haha, I pulled it, got pissed off at the quarter sized exhuast ports and hid it in a minivan : D Guess I'll go back tomorrow and prove to myself it will fit.

They will kick an 8v's hiney stock for stock. I'll get you guys some pictures and flow numbers as soon as I get my new shop set up. The move sucked major a$$, but I have alot more room now. I'm setting it up now and when I get to the boxes that have flow data, I'll post it for you guys and get the pics out here to show the swap.

What type of timing belt are you using? Is si not possible to swap on a cam geat for you 8v cam? I believe that was possible with the DOHC 16v conversion.

Actually I would beg to differ. A Magnum head will certainly outflow an 8v head stock for stock, but the regular 132 HP neon SOHC head seems to flow about the same as a 8v swirl.
