Is there any advatage in going with a Cometic HG over a Mopar MLS on a Stratus 2.4? I was just curious if the extra $$ was worth it. The one advantage I can see with the Cometic is the choice in thickness but will it hold any better?

Its the same gasket. Cometic makes the MLS for Mopar, at least they used to. So if you need the stock thickness, Id get whichever is priced better.

2001 and newer mopar gaskets are .020" thinner than 2000 and prior model year gaskets. The deck height grew .020" in 2001 model year. The reason for this change was 2000 and prior did not have a MLS gasket stock. Five layer=early thick gasket and Three layer=late thin gasket if memory serves me correctly.

Interesting. I didn't know that. I guess I'll just get things machined to the Cometic specs incase I want to go that route and just try the Mopar one first. Does anyone know if Mopar sells them with the 88 or 88.5mm bore or are they all the std. 87.5? This could make or break the descision too. Also, does anyone know what the thickness is of the pre-01 Mopar ones? Thanks

i'm using the fel pro mls gasket in my hybrid to start, i've heard from several people they hold up very well. i remember somebody saying he's got over 2 years on his with no leaks at 30+ pounds of boost. if i have any problems with the mls i'll just go with a copper gasket and be done with it.

My understanding from chatting with Cometic who also makes copper, is that you need to periodically reaneal the copper unit and it is less tolerant of temp swings.

Don't you also need O-rings to run a copper gasket? Or is it that you need a copper gasket when running orings........hmmmmmmmmmm

That's good to know. Thanks for all the info. I've heard the Cometics were reusable up to a certain point. Is this the same for the Felpro and Mopar units? I would assume so if Mopar is made by Cometic anyway.

You dont have to but it will be stronger if you do. Stephane is running a MLS with O-rings, but you have to hit the gasket just right due to the embossment. The MLS can be reused but be sure to use a good coating of copper gasket spray on both sides of the gasket.
