You cannot select something you don't want. Have you ever tried to put an A413 into 1st gear at anything above 35mph? 1st won't engage. There are built in safeguards against that. You really think the tranny PCM is THAT perfect???

The reason 1st won't engage is simply because of the way the mechanics of the tranny work. The governor is spinning too fast for the valve to open to allow fluid to flow to that circut. If you have a MVB it WILL engage 1st gear, BUT, unless you have a custom one from "torqueflight" on here it wont rev because it doesn't have engine braking built in to that gear.

On the 604 the TCM sees that if the selected gear will put the input and output speeds out of range, or the engine speed out of range, it will not select that gear. If we figure out how to actually manually control the transmission though...it more than likely will go in to gear...no matter what!

I would rig up some switches/buttons to the underside of a normal 5-speed shifter. Though now that I just thought a little more it might not be easy. The front to back stops are in the tranny and you might revert to 2nd every time you move the shifter out of a gear.

We are reffering to an A604/41TE. The one in this thread is backing a 2.4L DOHC engine that has been turboed. Basically the same thing you would find in a lot of the Turbo PT's. They can clearly withsatnd stock power, but how much beyond that in non-modified form, I don't know. Modified they can take quite a bit, but they have to be built right, which can cost a pretty penny.
