would a 2.4l bottom end with a 2.0l SOHC top end be able to be run by a the 2.5l SMEC components? I am working on getting a hybrid conversion together and wanted to know if i should go 2.5l bottom end or 2.4l I would like to avoid the pluggin and rerouting of ports if at all possible, but if i can plug and play a SMEC setup to the 2.4l and just drop that in, i wouldnt mind going that route...

thanks
Dustin

you would have to get a distributor adapter of some type. i'm doinng a 2.4 with dohc head with SMEC. i got a diagram for a mechanist to make an adapter for a dohc. if the sohc has the same cam sensor i don't see why it wouldn't work.

Bringing up the topic of a SOHC head on a 2.4 block is almost enough to get you banned on neons.org it is such a bad idea. A bunch of work for absolutely no gain over just using the DOHC head and only two have ever been done.

a while back in this section some one was talking about the SOHC head was better for a larger engine. i don't know if it's true. they were talking about a 2.5 hybrid. any way i think the DOHC is better my self. but i don't like to question what people are doing for what ever reason. i guess because i do crazy things too

The Neon SOHC head still flows far better than our 8v head does. And we have that 8v on countless 2.5L engines.. You'll still do better with an SOHC turbo 2.4 than you would with an 8v turbo 2.5... food for thought.

Making a 16v SOHC hybrid is all personal preference since you are already doing pretty severe mods to get the head to work. I'm sure it wouldn't be much more then the DOHC. But as I said before, putting a SOHC head on a 2.4 block makes no sense. OPf the two that have been done, one was done to see if it could be done and the other was to get around some racing rules.

I like having one cam, and i may go with a hybrid instead of a 2.4l block... Also I dont really care about DOHC or what some neon guy would think, thats why its going into a sundance... I shouldnt have to do anything more but mabye just different injectors if I run the SMEC on the hybrid right? Any one here got an extra turbo for this arrangement that I might be able to purchase? AND Any CONSTRUCTIVE advice when doing this conversion?

Constructive advice was to go with a better flowing (DOHC) head. And to go with a Megasquirt. You've ignored it. I would like to make a prediction. This is a pipe dream for you, and you'll never actually finish it.

I know the advice was with the head and heard that before, but I couldnt really find any DOHC heads for a reasonable price around here, then got a killer deal on complete 16v SOHC for only $30, and I do have a megasquirt, but I cant get the damn computer cable to work, so i decided to go with a SMEC untill I get the MS system to work, and SOHC cause it was an awesome deal

i'd say do it to it. on a hybrid basically the same steps as a DOHC you will probably still have to make a custom manifold to clear the dis. i think a few people have done it hybrid stile.

Well the criticism probably came since your opening sentence suggested mating a SOHC to a 2.4. If you can find a 2.4 block it will probably come with a DOHC so it's kind of commen sence that then trying to put a SOHC on it would be stupid and net you no advandages. If you are building a hybrid on the other hand then use what you want.

The electronic dis adapter being made on this site and use the crank and cam sensors to pun with SMEC elsectronics and the Neon coil.I am almost compleate on my SOHC hybrid and it is a lot of work and im not sure what the difference in everything is but from what I have hear the SOHC makes more touque than the DOHC so with a 2.2 it would be fun but a 2.5 would be way to much, atleast in the rampage. The reason I did a SOHC was its diferent and it was cheap and has one cam.

I went SOHC for the same reason somethign different, and i heard the same thing about the torque also, but that was only comparing the magnum head to the DOHC, im pretty sure that the plane SOHC non-magnum isnt THAT great unless you port the shit out of it... but the price was right and all i need now is a couple manifolds, and im ready to rock
