I was reading up on the megasquirt v3 and i saw that i can use the stock crank possition pick up sensor on the end of the cam. can i put that sensor to use in conjunction with the stock distubtuer/coil or would i have to convert to a coil pack?

what's your guy's take on this?

I am just getting into MS myself. I plan on using a ford edis for ignition. But I think you want to mount crank sensor on cam, basically. Is there a provision for the increase in speed?

MS-II, MSnS-E will both decode the pre-2003 2.0 and 2.4 crank sensor and fire the Neon coilpack if you add another ignition driver to the board. MS-II-E will decode 2003+ crank signals.

If thats the case, i should be able to use the stock pick up on the end of the cam and as well use a stock style coil.

MS1extra decodes 420a and NGC, so does MS2extra.

Regular MS1 or MS2 will NOT decode the 420a or NGC.

MS2E will also decode the cam sensor in addition to the crank sensor and let you run coil on plug ignition. On a 2.0 or 2.4, that is.

If you are building a hybrid, the cam sensor is useless to you.

No, it's cam position, not crank. It goes around once for every TWO crank revolutions. and if I remember right, it only gives one trigger every 2 crank revolutions. It's meant to tell the computer that this is TDC on #1 in conjunction with the crank sensor.

For MS, you only use the crank sensor with a 2.0/2.4. If you're building a hybrid, you cannot use the cam sensor on the head for crank position. Use a TBI distributor in the block, MS will decode that. I was wrong, MS-II-E and MSnS-E are the only two that decode Neon/420a.

V3 refers to the Circuit board revision number. There was a V. 2.2 and a V. 3 circuit board. MS1 and MS2 are the CPU's, MS1 is a basic 8bit CPU, MS2 is a 16bit CPU on a daughterboard with CAN and stepper idle control. Do you have MS1 or MS2?

It makes a lot more sense than just saying MSv3.. It's circuit board V3, MS1..
