ok i was wondering i bought a 2.4l out of a stratus at the yard and want to make it into a turbo engine. i was wondering what all i would need to do to the engine to do this. also i was wondering what i would need to do to the car to run the future 2.4l once it is turbo'd. thnx in advance.

go get a new set of srt-4 pistons and rods assy. they are only $47 a peace then throw in all new bearings from the srt engine too. and you should be good to go as far as the motor, also a turbo 2.4 head gasket.

as far as the car it really depends on what engine mang. you want to run. like mega squirt or the stock stuff. getting it in the car isn't hard ether.

Couple of points. I have heard that the SRT piston/rod combos have gone up in price to something like $65. Still really cheap for what you get. The SRT pistons only come in standard bore size so the block must be in good condition to use them.

You may want to figure out how to dumb down the oil pump some too. I suppose you can put a restrictor in the oil feed line to the turbo. My 2.4 out of a '99 Stratus will hit 120psi of oil pressure at 5grand when it's cold (below 60f). And that's with 5w/20 oil. It's even worse with thicker oil. Feed much over 70psi to a turbo and it tends to blow the seals right out of them. Permanently.

Using stock oil pump?

And, that high PSI means your pressure relief valve is non-operative.

Yeah.. You know, finding out what's wrong with having too high of oil pressure is as difficult as finding out out what's wrong with having too low of blood pressure.. heh.. There's info out for the opposite of both, no info for the other way.
You'd think in the 20k miles I've put on that engine, the pressure relief valve would have started working by now.. Oh well.

Common sense? There is no common sense reason not to run 120psi of oil pressure. Common sense says if 20psi is good enough, and 60psi is preferred, then 120psi is GREAT!

the more not always better. all you need is enough oil presser to make a .003 thick hard oil film. any more can cause a tighter clearance. witch leads to engine damage.

I wind that 2.4 up to 7grand regularly. Also held it at the 7100rpm rev limitter for a good 10+ seconds for a good smokey burnout when I quit my last job. hahaha.. Must be the synthetic..

high oil pressure will definatly wear a groove in youre bearings, you also only need a few psi of oil pressure

Don't the SRT4 bearings have a groove in them from the factory? I don't have a picture handy, but I've seen shots of them, they have a huge groove right down the center.

the mains do not the rod, they physically look like the N/A bearings i think the only difference is the turbo bearings are harder. from what every one says it's a must change if your going turbo. at least the rods.

All mains have grooves, rods do not. High oil pressure will wear grooves in the bearings because any particulate matter, even the really small stuff, will wear off the soft babbit layer. You only need enough pressure to get oil to the rod bearings and maintain the oil film between the bearings and the crank. If you have 100+ psi of pressure, either your gauge is wrong or your relief isn't working. High oil pressure also makes the pump work harder and can lead to overinflated lifters (I found that out the hard way).
