Here's a couple pics of my laser project, these are just some cell phone pics but I will get my hands on a better camera soon hopefully.

If it quits raining today I should be able to drive it for the first time, it seems to be running fairly well on the stage 5 cal so far and is very responsive compared to the old 8 valve

Took it for a ride and it is running very nice, been babying it right now but damn its got a much wider powerband, hit it once in 2nd gear for about 2 seconds and could not stop grinning.

It takes a lot less throttle input to keep the car moving and it feels very torqy on the bottom end.

what do you guys who have hybrids run for ignition timing ? ive got mine set at 8 degrees and i havent heard any knock

This thing is a beast it would walk my 8 valve even at 14 psi, its so smooth, i used gus mahons tricks on the bobble strut and the sway bar shim and wow what a difference first time out with the mods and and it ripped the rearview mirror off the windshield on the 1-2 shift lol.
Took my brother for a ride and he had a death grip on the door handle, I think he was more than a little surprised.

I cant seem to find any info on the timing though can anybody give some suggestions on what they like to run

Got a knock sensor installed? Burn one of the cals that flashes the check engine light when it sees knock, and you can play with the spark curve a bit to figure out where it should be all the way through the RPM range. That, or get it on a dyno, and you can find the torque peak, and adjust the spark curve accordingly.

Im sure the curves are going to be dramaticly different but its surprising how well its running on the stage 5, ive had to turn the fuel pressure down below stock and its still at 10-1 afr full throttle, just guessing I would have thought the pressure would need to be higher than stock but its still pig rich.

there is a new dyno shop about 5 mile away, I will have to stop in and see what they want for a pull or two if I ever get some extra cash and probobly should study up on the dcal and get a chip burner and some extra chips but id still like to know if anyone has safely run a base time setting that is fairly safe it seems like they run somwhere around 28 30 degrees total on thes pentroof heads.

I still havent found the red line it has such a long broad torque curve it pulls hard at any rpm, it will even pull a couple of pounds of boost in 5th gear at 55 mph.

Im surprised more people arent doing this conversion it was a lot of work but wow the window for potential is really opened up now with all the parts you can buy for these heads and the airflow capability

That's the default SRT4 spark map for WOT.. Kind of hard to read, but it is readable.

That's my spark table.
Those are both 2.4's, so a hair less stroke that the 2.5, but everything else is pretty similar. Flat top/dished pistons need 2-3 degrees less timing that the stock SRT4 "ski ramp" pistons do.. But if you can figure out how to use those numbers in the stock computer, it should do the trick for you.
I'm about to MegaSquirt a customer's 2.5L 16v hybrid Lancer here in a couple weeks. Soon as he gets the oil drain problem sorted (head keeps overflowing with oil).. Maybe I can document it and show how easy it is, and other hybrid builders can follow. We already know you have mad skills to have pulled this build off.. Might as well have mad skills and MS it too.. :)

Thank you, cool those tables look very similar to my old tunercat program, looks like i wont have too much to learn just a matter of money at this point but it would be nice to be able to go in and get it all dialed in, do you flash megasquirt or does it tune on the fly ?

Well, if you go with MoparChem or D-Cal, you may have a bit to learn. As I remember it, they have an advance by RPM "table", really just a line, 2D.. And an advance by MAP table that's also a 2D line, the two are combined in the CPU..
MS is a little of both, can tune it on the fly, or just flash a base cal and go. When tuning on the fly, when you're done making changes, you burn it into the flash memory to make the changes stick.

Yeah, it's strange how they went from being common as dirt to completely gone. I'd like one too.

The header was originally for an srt4 with rectangle ports, I did quite a bit of grinding to match it to the neons oval port and its still necks down a little also had to hammer the firewall a bit to get some room but it doesnt hit, a to4e would probobly be a tough fit if it would fit at all but you could cut the turbo flange and reposition it.

Im really happy with it though boost comes on amazingly fast and the car just runs great, my friend took a video of it running with his phone but he cant find a way to send it to me.
