Rods and RPM? The rods are the Eagle 2.4 rods. They did need to be lightly honed to straighten the big end before we installed them, and the bushing was pushed out of the small end so they would fit our .927" pin. Rpm? no higher than 6500.

Thanks Brian, did you end up changing the cam timing very much? We ended up with 4 deg advance on the intake and that was it. 26" slicks hey? We thought we might need to get some taller ones. What are you running for transfer gears?

Cliff, thanks man. I'm going to get on the phone with ARP tomorrow and see how much tighter I can torque the studs. They are only 4" long.

500 with porting? We're going to hit that with a few more pounds of boost, methinks.

I did get to play with cam timing a little bit last time on the dyno. I did end up with 2 degrees adv. on the intake side and 2 degrees ret. on the exhaust side. I plan on making some timing changes soon. I have the .91 gears in my trans with a 3.05 ring and pinion. What are you guys running for base timing and full advance?

We didn't have the tune up finalized as we were still playing when the gasket blew. We found that the engine wanted a lot more timing under boost with C16. At 20 psi we were fighting with a bad miss @ 22* total timing, we ended up with the timing around 26* total under full boost. The engine seemed a lot smoother at that timing and it eliminated the miss. We are also running about 9-1 compression ratio.

What fuel are you running and how much timing does your combo like? Most of my tuning experience comes from forced induction on pump gas. I haven't done a lot with C16....

I usually run 112 octane or C16. C16 when I can get it at the track. I have run timing from 14 degrees of base down to 8 degrees. My car likes 8 degrees a lot. All of my fastest runs have been on 8-10 degrees base timing. I'm not positive on total timing but I believe 24 is about right.

So Leon what are you torquing the head studs down to now? I've only torqued what it said in the box the studs came in.??
I know Mike Crawford had problems with the head lifting under boost so he ended up filling in all the water jackets at the mating surface and blockete'n the block.

Leon,
We tightened Scott's down to 80 ft lbs (I don't know what this is in Canadian )with no problems. The studs are so short with this setup and since you go to 28 lbs of boost before popping the headgasket maybe a few more lbs of torque might help.

Leon talked to ARP and Cometic regarding over torquing their studs....... Extremely not recommended. They said, only torque it to the recommendation. As far as the originally suspected blown head gasket.......... well, you can ask Leon at SDAC. We have news......

But, for extra insurance our Cometic gasket has arrived, which according to Cometic is the same gasket used by Team Mopar without O-ringing.

I also had a problem with the ARP studs and Cometic gasket. Torquing to 65 ft lb as recommended was not enough as the head was still lifting under boost and blowing out coolant. (I also found that, even though Cometic states that their gasket will not need retorquing after a few heat cycles, mine certainly did.)

In the end, 80 ft lb on the studs solved my head lifting problem immediately.

I've seen this car on cardomain for some time now... was very impressed back then. Even more now
From a given weight of 2,700lbs(is that your raceweight?) your car should run 129.4 mph based on the 457whp.
Get the raceweight down to 2,000lbs and be at 143mph!
Great work guys! Can't wait to hear in your next post that it broke the 500whp mark. hehe
