I have a question for you guys, I'm about to rebuild a 89 2.5 engine, and I am wondering, what the ballpark average of how much did it cost for you to get your engine up and running. I don't want an exact number cause I know it's not my business, just an average, like less than $2000, $3000, something like that so I can decide which direction I would like to go. Thanks

I can't give you an honest answer on cost to build something like ours. We build everything ourselves and I work at a shop where I do all of my own engine machining aswell. Our cost is going to be a lot different than your cost. Although we may have a long block for sale at the end of the season.......

As far as the smell........ It's almost a mix between Jagermeister and paint stripper of some sort. Either way I think we have to repaint the garage after the car was running in there.

Alright, that's thanks for the reply at least. I might just stick with rebuilding the 2.5 an 8v, for the time being. Good luck with yours though, I can't wait to see a video of it running sometime.

I agree. that's could be what blew the gasket even without detonation. A little too much cylinder pressure too soon according to crank angle/ piston placement. I just recently blew a gasket (lifted head) on my 8v 2.2 at around 30psi. I could see no signs of detonation what so ever after many blasts at 28psi+. I was running 27 deg total. I'm going to put in a few degrees of timing retard above 26psi along with studs and a Cometic gasket.
