Has anyone on this site turbocharged a 3.0 in a minivan?

I know the layout is similar bewteen platforms but there are some subtle differences with the 3.0 in the vans.

Anybody?

Does anyone know if it's possible to fabricate a manifold for the turbo that can place it in fron of the firewall?

Do a general search on the web, I've seen it. Some guy had a turbo 3.0 with a custom set-up using a single mitsu turbo . It was posted on www.cardomain.com . I'll post the info if I have any luck finding it.

Yeah but there is a good amount of room behind the plenum.

I could fit a normal sized turbo there.

A turbo will fit. I had a stock manifold modified with a turbo flange. I will concur that it fits (bearly, in a Lebaron). But there is one problem. The oil drain of the turbo is lower than the level of the oil in the oil pan. You would have to get an oil pump to sump the oil drain off from the turbo back up into the motor. I had plans on doing this, but decided to just fabricate a manifold for the rear and modify a crossover with a turbo flange. So, the turbo sits above the transmission. Basically, I'm copying Ondonti's setup, with a twist. Only downfall of this setup is that it requires the intake plenum to be flipped with the throttle body on the passenger side of the motor.

Yeah, if I were to place the turbo above my transmission I would lose my cruise control and have to move my battery, etc...

So I would like to install it behind the plenum infront of the firewall.

It's good to know these little tips if I decide to do this down the road.

My turbo 3.0 has cruise control.

Its as simple as extending the wiring harness for the CC unit and placing it on the other side of the engine bay. Battery relocation isnt bad. I moved mine to the fender.

Minivans have tons of room above the plenum. Thats a good thing.

If you can fit a blower behind the plenum I imagine it couldn't be to hard to get a turdbo back there. http://harv.f0e.net/engine.jpg (=

Hi Wink,

It looks like the oil pan on my 2nd Gen 95 Caravan is lower than my CAT. I just wonder if I can fit this T3-T4-Hybrid where my CAT now bolts up.

That is where I want my turbo. I am keeping my coated stock rear manifold, even if I have to modify the firewall to make it fit.

I will weld a flange on it, but I am not getting rid of it. I will spend the $200 to get a oil return pump if it really is necessary. I doubt I will need it though Wink.

Ask if KMP will build you one of these. There rear manifolds will look better then the ones in the pics. That was sort of a hackjob. THey use CAD to get the right cuts on the first try now.

It's not the depth of the oil pan that is the problem. It's the oil level within the pan that is higher than the bottom of the oil drain from the turbocharger. This will not allow oil to drain properly out of the turbo and will cause your turbo to start leaking oil where you don't want it to.

On the other hand, the only way I could put a turbo in the baron was with the turbine/downpipe located towards the passenger side of the engine bay. Now, if you were to flip the turbo, so that the turbine/downpipe is oriented towards the driver's side, then it just might sit high enough for decent oil drainback. I just didn't have the room for it this way (hit the firewall). But if you have the room, then I say go for it.
