anyone know of a link or have info on how to convert a f250 4.9L I6 to turbo?
the fabbing would be easy for me, but ill have problems with fuel and spark.

is this even a good engine to do the swap to? im not looking for serious power but rather more torque for hauling things

You might look at Ford of Australia's Falcon XR6 Turbo. I don't think it's a 4.9L (4.0 maybe?) but it's an inline 6 turbo... Those might be good for certain parts you're looking for...

The newer Falcon Inline 6 I don't believe has anything related to the US 4.9. The link above may have some info.

What year is the 4.9L I6 you want to turbo? If it's not MPFI yet, find the MPFI intake manifold at a JY and swap that on. Toss in some larger injectors (27lb from a T1 TD would probably do fine). And run Megasquirt II on the thing to control fuel and spark.

The Ford 4.9 is a GREAT and DURABLE motor. High torque and strong design. I think a small quick spooling turbo would be a nice complement. The 4.9 runs out of steam around 4500 RPM's if I recall correctly.

Pair of our stock Garretts would do nicely on a 4.9..

i didnt even know anyone was responding to this! i no longer get notified

anyways its a 93, and yeah it runs out of steam at around 4500, its a great truck and we plan to keep it for a long time so doing anything "insane" is out for now. at this point this is just an idea.

a mitsu should do the trick no? and should i just tap the water pump for coolant? and how would i get oil to it?

2 mitsu's, yeah, they'll work, but I think 2 garrett's would be better. a Mitsu is too small for our 2.2's, 2 on a 4.9 gets you 2.45 per turbo.. Get oil to it the same way our TD's do, from the oil pressure sender.
Being a '93, it's MPFI, so you can just add bigger injectors and change out the ECM for something aftermarket like Megasquirt or one of the expensive alternatives.

mfpmax thanks for the link i found alot of great info on the site, but sadly there is no info on turbo charging the EFI engines, only the early carb models, no one there so far has a clue on how to turbo the efi system...other than swapping a 96 MAF computer and harness and do a blow through MAF EFI setup.

Megasquirt costs less than $200. Take 6 turbo 1 injectors from an old TD..
Nope.. Very cheap alternative.. www.megasquirt.info

I would go single turbo since it is inline but if you want the extra fabbing i guess you could. I'd run something like a r/t turbo or bigger.
