Ive Got A 85 Ford Ranger. How Well Do The Mitsu Or Garret Turbos Work With These Engines?

Depends entirely upon your goals with the vehicle. Easiest way to do it would be to get the exhaust manifold and turbo off of an 84-88 Thunderbird Turbocoupe or Merkur XR4-Ti. But then, just like turbocharging any other non-turbo vehicle, you'll have fuel, knock, and computer issues. Best bet is to pull the complete drivetrain and computer from the car and swap it in. The complete swap has been done many times on Rangers. www.turboford.org will have plenty of info for ya.

Yeah, but the 2.3 Turbo swap could be done soley with junkyard parts . . .

. . . although I prefer the peace of mind to rebuild everything first.

If you go with the 2.3 do a search for Joe Morgan, affectionately known as Turbo Joe in the Ford community. He probably knows those motors better than anyone alive. He has had some very fast 2.3's.

http://www.turboford.net/faq/joe.shtml

His combo is a bit out of date and there are other ways of going about making his #s...but he still helps out on that site.

Also might want to actually check the forum out on there as there are a few guys with Rangers...I think a guy with a 83-85 just did a high 13 pass recently.
