I had one for about a week way back in '95. I traded in my '91 Shadow for it at a Mercedes dealership. Got it for $21k, fully loaded except for cd player, pear white, chrome wheels, leather, rear steering, etc. The car was fast and handled very nice. Ended up taking it back as I got military orders to Korea for a year.

Not easy to work on!! very heavy, under powered for what it is. Better off with a Supra twin turbo, or even a RX7 twin turbo. My buddy had one and his was problematic.

I think they are cool, but they are hard to work on, hard to modify, and expensive to modify. There is no room under the hood. Something that can more easily upgraded would be more fun..........I think even a 3000gt would be a lot easier to work on.

they are nissan. they will go forever if they are taken care of. twin turbo systems are obviously going to have more problems than an na car, but if reliability is a large concern then modding cars might not be the best hobby for you haha.
they are the number 2 90's japanese turbo car, right below the supra, but id personally take a tt z over a supra any day of the week.

Um, they are hard to work on and expensive to modify?
If you get butthurt about me saying that then you need a reality check. The fact that a car has a good motor or trans doesnt make it a sweet car.
No way a 300zx handles better then a 3/s either.

the problem with cars like those is they were one of a manufacter's high-end sports cars. because of that, they will be expensive to repair or modify. doesn't make them bad cars. like said above, most of these are over 10 years old now, so of course there are going to be problems. i've really never heard anything bad about them besides age-related expensive repairs. (i.e ball joints on the stealth/3000gt are $400+ control arms.)
but to deem them unrealiable crappy cars is just not true.
i owned a 300zx turbo (Z31-single turbo) for about a year. if you want a z that's not to expensive, one of these would be a great buy. mine had over 200,000 miles on it and ran great. the body was just rough. i sold it to a kid who had about 3000$ invested in his '86 and was running 12's with it (lower end had 240,000 miles on it!) so they are more economical than the Z32's. also, the repair parts don't cost as much.

those cars are really nice looking and pretty fast stock, the only downside i see is working on the engine alone, the thing dosnt fit in there and after working on a daytona i feel pain for the guys that have to pull that engine..anyways its a really nice car and if not modded to hell there reliable, my friend has one i believe its a 90 really nice, his lifters are giving him problems so when he checked the expense for repairing i believe it was 400 on lifters only....but i dont think that happenes to everybody, if ya like the car get it, when i wanted my daytona everybody said those cars were crap and mines still around, boosted

if anything a 3kgt is more of a pain in the ass to work on. imagine the engine bay of a 300zx, plus a transfer case and 2 extra drive wheels. my friend is into 3000gt's and i seriously cringe everytime i see his engine bay. theree are 200+ vacuum lines in there if i remember right, the 4 wheel steering shit (300zx has it too though), 4 wheel drive. they have the most bells and whistles and therefore the most shit to break of all the cars in their league. plus they are mitsu.. and in a reliability contest between mitsu and nissan, especially a mitsu with all the extra crap on it that the 3kgt vr4's have.. well.. i dont think anyone in their right mind would expect a more reliable machine out of the vr4 hehe.
if you want a car like that you are going to have to pay out the ass for it and thats just the way it works. the supra and 300zx are both very solid cars, the 3kgt not so much, and the rx7 is an absolute peice of shit.
just what ive seen, dont shoot the messanger
