Moving the turbo farther away from the exhaust ports isnt really a good idea, i imagine you would lose power. Although even the rear mounted turbo kits seem to work so i dunno. If you are willing to do all that work, why not build a 16v with a custom header and put the turbo wherever you want? Whether or not its your intention, this post makes you sound like a ricer.

People will say most anything is possible, but personally I don't think it's possible in this case. The turbo is hanging off the back of the motor, right in the middle. For you to somehow fab up a custom header to turn around 180 degrees, come across the front somewhere, mount the turbo, and have the exhaust head back out the rear of the engine compartment just isn't going to happen, sorry. And if you were able to fab it up IMO it would end up looking gay, and of course you would lose some power with all the extra tight radius bends.

What you could do is polish the compressor housing or get a brand new turbo(like a super 60), ditch the stock airbox and make a cold air setup. The turbo is still in the same spot but it would be more visible.

Your valvecover says TURBO right across it, maybe polish that so it stands out...I dunno. How about a big ass front mount intercooler. Or a big shiny blow off valve mounted in a noticible spot. If people still can't tell it's a turbo they're retarded anyways so who cares.

In order to make the turbo sit over top of the transmission you need to make a custom header out of weld fittings. Youll also need a brace of some sort. Make the header so where the turbo is right now, youll have a flange that you can unbolt if you ever need to work on the transmission. The pipe and turbo will all come out in one peice. The extra length of the exhaust manifold means its going to take like 1.0932848% longer to spool up. Go for it, but only if you have a good welder and know how to weld\fit piping and stuff like that. It would look alot better there and be alot nicer to run the plumbing to.
In the future someday I want to run two mitsus in stages over top of the transmission.

Guys let him do whatever he wants. I agree it could get ricey but it all depends on how he decides to finish it off. (Paint\Polsihing\Colored hoses etc) There is no reason it will not work.

Good thing DBLTRBL didnt post his idea to get hacked on before he did it.
