The only turbo engine availible in a 1990 Spirit is a 2.5L TI, which is a very good engine, its about the same as a TII, only it doesnt have a forged crank shaft. The rods are the same, and the block and head are cross drilled. Also its a common block, which is stronger than the pre 1989 blocks. The big difference between a 90 TI and a TII is an intercooler which your car will not have from the factory, but can be added easily. The only transmissions availible in a 90 spirit were the A523 5 spd , and the A413 automatic. The easiest way to tell a TI from a TII is the intercooler, and a black valve cover, TI will have no intercooler and a silver valve cover. TIII has Dual overhead cams and the valve covers are red, but the TIII was not availible till 91 in a spirit.

Check out the turbo database on this websight, they have lots of good info on modifications and what parts work best.
