I use to sell these when they were new. Chrysler had the Conquest, Mitsubishi (same car) was called the Starion. The one to get, is the 87 and up. (I went back ative duty then, so I forgot how far the model run went) do a google search...anyway, the one that looks like a Japanese "transformer" Robot toy...really boxy fender flares, wide ass tires and wheels and the big Intercooler in the grill. Thats the ticket...I remember when we got the first one in, plastic on the seats, cosmoline on the engine...yours truly backed one off the Transporter, and got it out on Ponce deLeon in Atlanta...cruised to Scott Blvd, and where that open up heading towards Stone Mountain, I got it up to 140+mph!(Engine cuts out then) Hows THAT for an engine break in! The feel of the Intercooled engine (throttle response, spooling)over the non IC'd engine is day and night. I think everyone will tell you, stay away from the earlier ones, because they are like all Turbo Dodges earlier than 88 (True TII engines)
"Suck thru" engines were nice for their day, but you cant mod them (easily) and they are fragile to say the least. There is a German dude here in my town that runs a chipped and modded 89 Starion pushing 21 psi...cool car!

They are cool by doing a rwd block from a truck with 4G63 head swap and 1G electronics upgrade.

nice bit of info, I didn't know the wide bodys were only 86 and up. And I like the looks of them, plus they're rwd not this fwd crap we have to play with(in the end, it's just so much more fun to roast the rear tires, do donunts, etc). But I don't like they're engines. Drop in a 2.5 and you may have something there.

Local guy from Lincoln, Nebraska:

Not only is it blindingly fast, it's by far the cleanest one I've seen in my life.

you can swap a full 4g63t engine into them and make incredible horse power. buschur racing here in ohio makes engines mounts fo the car and even has a tranny plate to put in a gm automatic tranny. DSM's are some of the best sports cars ever built. I have owned 5, 2-nonturbo ones tat i hade running 13's and 3 turbos running 10's.

What kind of investment goes into the swap? Has to be expensive, but of course for 11s or 12s, completely worth it and still unique..

you also have to rotate the turbo and move the throttle body to the other side of the intake manifold
