Anybody here have any experience with the VW VR6 engine? I'm thinking about buying a Jetta, GTI, or possibly a Corrado with this engine with the intention of turbocharging it for 400+ WHP. I'll need to sell a couple of my TDs first so I'm just thinking out loud at the moment.

I'll probably change my mind as soon as I find out how expensive stuff is.

Not to mention all the special tools you are going to have to buy..... The only reason I would think about owning a VW is for the diesel. There is a very nice V6 2.5L TDI diesel in the European market. Could get that in a station wagon with awd and a 6spd manual. Could be very fun.

Bah....I hate diesel. I can barely walk outside my apartement without smelling diesel fumes thanks to the mineral industry (coal mines, oil rigs, methane production etc). There are probably more turbo diesel trucks in this county than there are cars. I guess I just grew up hating that stench.

Step one- Go get an R32 AWD. These are limited number imported, and will be highly sought after more every year!

Step two- Go to ATP Turbo and shop till you drop. They are tailored specificly for those platforms. the prices are damn good, too.

The VW diesel is rather refined compared to arrange truck. Though with a Vw diesel you are automatically part of the strange cult..... Our TDI is at 203K now and still running strong. If you get the VW have fun and snag some tools/ manuals it will save some frustration.

Can he say Compound Turbocharging? That would be sweet, scary, and unique! Haven't seen it done on a diesel car yet, but i'm sure there's one somewhere...

Like this, it is a 1.9 precup engine vs the newer 1.9 or 2.0 TDI/PDI engines.

There is a quantum syncro in my local junk yard. 5cyl 5spd 4wd wagon beast, and there is a Audi 5000 with the turbo 5cyl that would swap in... but you could also swap in the Audi 5cyl turbo diesel. The Audi turbo has the K-jetronic mechanical fuel injection.

I haven't seen any newer compound VWs. They like to stick with the tryed and true. Guys have swaped TDIs into the early VWs and converted to mechanical Injection VS the Throughle by whire that is on the factory TDIs. Ps there is one dodge manual trans that will fit on the VW diesel. Sorry iTurbo about the thread jack.

No biggie....I'm wondering, would it be easier on the bank account to modify a 20V 1.8T car instead of the VR6? Both seem to have a lot of aftermarket (compared to TDs), but I'm sure the VR6 has more potential in the long run. I just wonder if it would be absolutely necessary to lower the compression ratio and get forged pistons for the VR6 for making decent power.

Why not turbo an older vw with a 16v? A mk1 scirocco with a turbo 16v and some suspension work would be a very fun car, and alot faster than a 400hp mk4, epecialy anywhere other than the dragstrip.

You wouldn't need to make but 250 to the wheels for a ride that will make your G friend pee-pee! That car is LIGHT! Go for the 1.8 if you realisticly have a budget. If you're loaded w cash, do the VR6. It will hold boost fine up to 12psi.

The R32 is waay out of my budget. I'm just finding out that VWs really seam to hold their value a lot better than used domestic cars do. Even finding a decent 1.8T MkIV Jetta around $10k is difficult. I'm kinda diggin the Corrado SLC VR6 but they are a bit too boy-racerish for me.

I've found a couple nice GTI VR6 cars in my price range, but then I think of how nice a GLHS I could get for the same money...but I really want to get something than another TD since I already have three of them.
