Has anyone done any reserch into the cosworth cylinder head used on the
Dodge M4S? (the wraith car)

I was just surfing and started looking and trying to find information on this, I got to thinking about a DOHC swap onto a 2.2 or 2.5 with a cosworth head.
and was wondering if it was a reworked head off the merkur 4xrti, or cosworth escort RS?

just playing with ideas here and kind of like the idea of using a cosworth head with the cosworth turbo vave cover.

just thought this might be interesting if one of those heads could be found

The XR4Ti has a Ford 2.3 SOHC head(which barely flows better than a stock Turbo II head apparently).

The Cosworth BDA series engines were based on the old Ford Kent engine ( as was the original Lotus Twin Cam engine). It had the same 96mm bore spacing as the Chrysler 2.2/2.5 (the newer 2.0/2.4 also use the same 96mm bore spacing). There were quite a few variations on the BDA that used the same bore spacing.

But, that doesn't mean the head is a bolt on. I have no idea if the bolt pattern is the same. Plus, the oil passages and water jackets would need to line up.

As a side note - the newer 2.3l Ford (Mazda based?) engines also use the same 96mm bore spacing. I don't think the earlier 2.3 SOHC Ford is the same...

The Lotus Esprit 2.2 Turbo and V8 both also share the 96mm bore spacing (probably because they're also based on the old Ford Kent engine).

The head you are thinking of (from the sierra and escort cosworth platform) was used on the YB engine, which is essentially the 2.0 pinto engine; no relation to the kent engine.
the newer duratec 2.3 does not have the same bore spacing as the lima 2.3, and also has chain driven cams instead of belt driven.
last i heard the neon heads were the best option to get to a 2.2/2.5 dohc setup.

I have done research and I can tell you Cosworth USA still has the stuff in stock and that you can expect to pay about 10k soup to nuts. The head is for a 2.2, it not based on another engine. I did have a parts diagram at one time, after I got price quotes I threw it away.

yeah I knew they had done a DOHC on a chrysler engine for the Dodge M4S
pace car/ wraith movie car /proto type.

but at 10K OMG was that for complete or just the head? I am more interested in just the head and cams they used and a cosworth valve cover

but that is sounding way out of my price range

The Wraith was a project and probably from what I have read, theres only a few. If you could find a head, which I highly doubt, it would be serious coin, out of most of our price ranges. Then if you do find it and buy it, and it breaks, what are you going to do?

so are you saying that the escort/sierra cosworth head (220bhp 2.0 liter turbo) fits our 2.2/2.5 common blocks?

if so, sweet deal, friend of mine has a spare one laying around (+ header and intake)...

88jbody,
It was 10k for the cylinder head and related parts. They have the parts in stock. They told me they had made quite a few for some type of FIA formula that never took off.
The head may have started as a Ford design, however, if they machined it from a blank there may not be much in common.

I think that's a YB engine, not a BDA. The BDA (Kent) based engines used the same bore spacing as the Chryslers, but that's proabbly all that lines up...
