HELP !

I need a vin or a paint code from a Conquest TSi its the electric looking blue and tracking down this paint has been a PITA.

I am hoping someone here has one or can point me to a place that might have some more people around that may have one.

I hope yours do, my dads shop has gone all computerized and thier chip collection dosent go back that far.

They use the Sherwin-Williams computers and that thing sucks or looking up paint codes. One would think that if I keyed in 1989 Mutsui Conquest TSi or the didge/chrysler equivliant it would pull up the production codes for that year with a basic color chart. I mean if I have to mix and spray a few test batches no biggie but I cant even get close without a vin.

Thanks for the help !

I am sure they do, the issue is that you cant find it by just keying in year and make of car. Trust me on this as I spent the better part of 2 hours trying to narrow it down to the right blue.

The 2 software packages I have used to look up paint codes have been very weak in say I know the color is on a Conquest TSi and pull up a list of colors for that car.

I pulled out my PPG paint books and found the conquest code you want in 1 min. it took me longer to find my books than it took to find the code. sounds like you need to find a PPG source

The FSM lists paint codes. Silver metallic is H43, Gold metallic is K78, olive silver metallic is L05, Red is R04, REed metallic R64, White W18, Black X15, etc. get a Conquest factory service manual and you will have your answer. Or as suggested, any paint supplier (that likes you) can easily find the code. But if you want the code, one would expect you also want the paint? All paint suppiers WILL make that color... so why exactly do you need the code?????

where is reston, maybe I can find you a paint supplier. like Keystone. I get all my PPG paints from these guys http://keystone-auto.com/locations/search.asp If you really called 3 dealers and got no answer, you must really come across wrong. I can walk right into my Dodge dealer and the parts Manager will bend over backwards to find info for me even if I'm not buying parts. The service manager will let me look up anything I want in the service manual library and on MDS. So it looks like you can find the information you need right from any Dodge/Chrysler dealer or thru any paint supplier. the BS you got about must have VIN is total bunk. the reason 4 body shops don't want to help you is either you come across totally goofy or they just don't want to waste their time.

Robert:
This is/has been a very controversial subject at starquestclub.com

First of all the VIN is one way of helping the paint vendor to indirectly track the color but the color is not directly integrated in the VIN. Both the 'Make' and the 'Model Year' (2nd and 10th digits) in the VIN are very relevant however.

Note first of all you're only referring to the '88-'89 Conquest TSi and NOT the twin, Mitsubishi Starion, when writing about the paint code.

From my '87 FSM, the Conquest paint code is B71 Blue (Metallic), apparently often referred to as Atlantic Blue which is NOT what you want.
Evidently on the '88-'89 Conquest, from my 1989 FSM, the code is different, T87, also confusingly called in the book as Blue (Metallic)! I understand that this is the code you want.

I append for your edification, a posting from starquestclub that would shed some more light on the topic - It would be fair to say that "UltimateLurker" made a point of collecting all the imaginable facts and minutiae.

I think what you're calling "Electric Blue" is actually called "Fiji Blue", as mentioned before the paint code is T87 and was ONLY available in '88/'89 and only on the Conquest TSi. Your car is probably Atlantic Blue (B71), check the silver plate on the firewall. The only other blue ever produced for a Starquest was T80 (Balt Blue), and it was only made on '89 Starions. To date, I've only seen one in my life, he's a member here, MoMagnum.

I hope this helps.

allmotor -

Welp first up was the shop my dad works for. I went through all the chip books they still have. If you have a Paintcode from a job, the SW database will pull up the orginal formula and the variants that have been found todate.

The other body shop were where buddies work and again called them, talked to the lead paint guys and asked about thier chip books.

As to the dealers, the several I called were olite but if I didnt have a VIN they flat out said they can not get me a paint code. I personally think thats a utter pile of crap, but I honestly dont think new parts guys have a clue how to find stuff w/o a vin.

At my dads shop every parts order is made with a vin number. I have walked up to parts counters and asked about getting a touchup pen for my Brilliant Black Pearl Dodge Magnum,

Me: Hey I am hoping you can help me out, I need a bottle of touchup paint for my 05 Dodge Magnum R/T, its the Brilliant Black Pearl ?
Parts Guy : Well do you have a vin ?
Me: Not super handy, I can grab a vin from any of the 15-20 BBP chargers on the lot.
Parts Guy : YOu sure its the same color ?
Me: Well its listed at BBP and they all roll off the same plant so I would guess they are.
Parts Guy : Well it would be best to have YOUR vin.

At this point I walk back to where I had parked ( 2 or 3 lots over and down teh street ) got the vin and got a vin to a charger as well and gave him both, sure enough same code :/

I have run into this at EVERY dodge parts counter I have been too to date, and I ask them a simple question and I am polite about it so unless they just dont care for a 30 something white dude I have o idea why they wouldnt be helpfull ( other than being lazy asses )

I thing you would be shocked how dependant on computers paint guys are these days.

-Robert

PS - OB mega thanks for the help ! Ill call the painter after lunch and give him the code.

Reston, Va hardly back woods.

like i said most of these place in the last few years got rid of chip books for computers.

As an example my dads shop has gone from Siken, PGP, Sherwin Williams as they have made those changed the chip books I am guessing got tossed as they did have room for all the new gear etc.

As a suggestion, just because you seem to living in a magical place that everyone does everything you ask, dont assume it is the same everywhere else.
