I was daydreaming in class the other day... just because it's college doesn't mean school tendencies change. I was wondering if anyone had tried to turbo a 318, or one of the more modern Magnum 5.2L. I think it'd be a fun project, maybe no in your standard TD, but none-the-less it'd be interesting. Mated up to a supra or mustang trans, or go freaky and try an all wheel drive approach. Go day dreams I guess.

I started that project for you. The car is a 77 plymouth arrow. Total weight before the 360 was 2100 pounds. Add in the full cage the 360 and the 4 link maybe around 2600 with weight lost. The motor is a 84 360 with the stock 4 barrel. I went with this since on stock block the compression is lower than your average TD. Buy or modify a carb for boost. Add in a to4b turbo from a diesel and you start see what I'm talking about.

The carb might be a better idea anyway. I'm looking for something that's more mechanical than electrical. Granted compared to new cars TD's are hardly difficult electrically. Thanks for the info, I hadn't realized you were going turbo with that project.

Turbo 4.0? There are kits out there... I looked into it for my Wrangler/TJ, but then when I looked at gas mileage and the reduction in reliabilty, the novelty soon wore off.

Would be neat though, the torque curve is already pretty good down low...

i would tend to turbo the v8, and super the I6. the power band of the 4.0 leads more twords supercharging. im building a blown 4.0 with an m90, and my desktop dyno shows a steady 400ft/lbs from 2000 all the way to 5000 before it starts to drop off.
thats the most useful power range for the stock gearing in my cherokee.
