Hmm.. I actually kinda liked the skyhawk. I thought they were better looking. Yeah there really isn't too much potential there. Too bad they didn't make a turbo fiero.

Yes, I want it. Located in Denver.

It MUST be that cluster though, and in decent condition (not all sun faded, broken, ect)

I had a few sunbirds back in the day, they couldn't hold a head gasket for long even without the turbo and the timing belt would be sure to break when your 500 miles from home, gas milage was crap too

I used to work for the company that built the gmc syclone prototype and they used the clusters from turbo sunbirds

They also put a turbo 2.0 in the grand am but i think they were very rare only saw one at the yard and never even heard of them other than that

There is a very in depth thread over there with a former PAS engineer with him spilling his guts about what he knows about the trucks, as well as stories from design, testing, etc. We would love to have you over there, and would be eager to hear any information that you might have about these trucks (owner of '92 Ty #0014 here, former owner of #1616 Sy).

BTW, my name over there is MHST Guy. Tell them I sent you

I never had a turbo sunbird but I did own a 1.8L '84 sunbird. I got it when I was 16 and had it till I was 28. That was the best car (despite what others say). It was very easy to work on, very reliable, cheap parts, great gas mileage (low 30s on the hwy), but pretty slow. I put 240,000 miles on the car with no engine rebuild and only 2 clutches. It got really rusty so I turned it into an offroad derby car and ran it in 6 races before the rear axle fell off over a small jump. It still drove with no rear wheels! The ride was pretty rough. I junked the car after that race.
BTW, there is a turbo GT sunbird in the junkyard near my house. It still has the entire engine and the turbo! Let me know if anyone needs parts.
Does anyone know if the MAP sensor from that car can be used on a Turbo Daytona to relocate it to the engine compartment?

Turbo sunbirds used to be really good autocross cars (about as fast as a shadow/daytona).

a few month old post but oh well.

You can do a lot with a 8v LT3/C20GET motor. The motors were not popular in the US but did evolve well in Europe and other countries. In this country they evolved in the Daewoo but in Europe they evolved well.

They are very small engines, the Turbo ones were connected to Getrag/muncies or automatic. They use Typhoon/Syclone based ECU's...very tunable. The stock fuel system is good for 250hp.

I have a complete new setup sitting swap into a RWD Chevette, a FWD Lemans, or other GM FWD car.

Mantapart is pretty much out of business now...and pretty much out of development. JEff from Engineered Performance down in Atlanta has worked with it in past. Jeff swapped a Daewoo head on to a C20GET with imported Vauxhall cams, imported manifold, larger turbo, and injectors...stock ECU for 307whp/289wtq on 16psi.

I have been told there is a import manifold that can be modified to work with the DOHC head.

A few have popped up on ebay and in forums making some really nice power..and not a lot of $$ which is a solid foundation on the TD's.

Much information and talk on this is in Vauxhall and Daewoo forums. GM really didn't anything for development on this engine and in the early 90's was banking on the Quad 4 which got an extensive Rocketpart catalog and some racing time.
