Okay I have searched all over and checked prior threads, but i still can't find an answer to this. I am looking at a 1987 Sundance turbo for sale. I know it is the 2.2 turbo, but I cannot figure out yet if it is the Turbo I or II. I will be able to tell once I open the hood, obviously, by looking for the I/C piping.

I am confused because I have read in a couple places that the Turbo II was implemented in 1987 in all cars except the L-bodies. This would mean that even this 87 Sundance would be a T2. I have seen the outside of the car in question, it is not an RS or anything.

Should I see a factory boost gauge in this car when I look at it closer?

The only Pbodies to get the T2 intake/turbo/ic where the Shelby CSX in 87. 88 they all got the new T2 style intake but had a mitsu turbo. In 89 you could get an intercooled Pbody in the Shelby CSX-VNT. In 90 Dodge put the VNT motor into a shadow as well if you ordered it right.

Awesome, thanks for the help. I have been reading up on T1 to T2 upgrades, just in case I decide to go that route.

I know the CSX and VNT turbo cars are supposed to be pretty sweet, but I prefer the turbo sleeper that looks like crap and costs very little!

I believe the '87 CSX cars came from the factory with a Garrett turbo, Bosch alternator and Bosch starter. Those were different than stock pieces. I also think the axles were specified different and you could tell by the rubber joint covers. of course, this is in addition to the obvious changes Shelby made in the drivetrain and suspension, gfx, wheels, and decals.

You could purchase a T-1 Shadow/Sundance loaded with a sunroof and all options available in 1987 for about $10,000. I ordered one and then the CSX pricing was reduced at the dealership where my car came in. I haggled with the sales guy (who later was fired for selling the car so cheap) and I paid $10,000 cash for my CSX brand new in 1987. Point being the T-1 Shadow/Sundance was indeed a mitsu turbo T-1 car. I'm sure the one you are looking at is the same if it is still in factory stock configuration.
