Hi, I have been looking around for a compact, affordable, RWD sports car that i could pick up for a couple thousand and i almost gave up hope until i stumbled across the Chrysler Conquest. There is an '88 that i can pick up locally for $1400 with an entire parts car, various parts, and a few sets of tires. I am hoping you guys say some positive things about this car because so far i am convinced but i would love to hear your opinions on the COnquest. Thanks

It looks like in reliability, these cars are horrid but everyone there said when they were running correctly they were a blast to drive. I'll have to do some thinking before i commit. That Conquest was sold so i've got a little while to think. Going into winter isn't the best time for one of these any way (i live in NE).

Conquest are great cars i have two very good friend of mine (father and son) who own two of them one is an 86 conquest (father) and the other is a 87 starion(sons). Belive it or not the 86 conquest went in to alot of mods were the car was running 9sec or so pushing 900HP from the 2.6 liter turbo the BLow valves sounded like Bombs going off. The only down fall to the conquests are the oil jets that make the car run a bit hot...BUT once you remove them your fine and put a better cooling system to...to keep things a bit cooler. The 2.6 liters are very good engines their strong and with lil mods their a blast to have but your best bet is to get an 88/89... better performance

THat's all i hear is that they are a great car...but... . i think i am going to pass unless a really good deal comes up. I love the looks and the RWD is what really turns me on to these cars but i hear too much about issues. I would have to save up a little more to get to oil jet eliminator kit and new cooling if that's what it needs. In the interum i'll be working on my GLH and using that. I have also considered an Eagle Talon TSI AWD but that's even more money . I'll have to do more research on both cars.

DSMS are known for crank walk....if you by a conquest all u have to do is spend a bit of money and thats it. conquest are great cars especially its a 2.6 and not a 2.0.

Ya i have heard of the crankwalk epidemic with the DSMs. I almost bought a Talon a year ago, i was really into those cars but i held out because that one had more issues than i wanted to get into. So far i have heard it would be in my best interest to get an oil jet eliminator kit, and new cooling system, is there anything else that they need help on?

My brother has a conquest that he is building. he's shooting for 400 hp with the throttle body injection just because everyone says it cant be done. He cant keep it in one piece so ill stick w my TD. besiddes the conquest is a Mitsu, not a chrysler. I made that mistake once (1990 laser, it was $200 and i needed sonething to drive.) my dad would kill me if i showed up at his house with a conquest. And from what ive heard the TD's were more reliable. There is too much valuable iron siting around my house to put a car in my driveway that likes to catch fire.

I think i might go through with my plan because there are a few availible around me for less than $1500. If i do i'll just buy a portable garage (no more room in parent's garage) and wrap it up until i get the Omni stabilized and then sell that.

If im not mistaken which i prob am you just have to cut of the Jets or something like that i know ATK has them for not much all ready oil jet eliminated. You gotta understand their old cars so they need attention Instead of being a TD having a gasket issue conquest have Oil jet issues who cares every car has their problems even ours. Conquests in the other hands are gonna be valuable and its RWD they remind me of rwd TDs with a bigger engine. But thats the only thing i can recall tho but their is a forum about conquest i think its call starquest.org or net or .com not sure which of the dote com it is.

You can just swap in a Caravan 2.6 head, has the jet valves eliminated from the factory. Conquests are fine usually as long as they've been properly maintained. Usually most problems are electrical, ranging from bad injector plugs to headlights not coming on/popping up. Usually just nitpicky stuff that is hard to track down.

Conquests have a known head warping problem and also known for getting bottom end knock. most for sale have at least one of these problems, then physically, the passenger side frame rail is known to rot out. the cars area blast but have to be maintained well

It's funny you should say that, a Conquest not too far away from me is said to have a knock even though he just rebuilt the engine and turbo about a month ago. He doesn't know where it's coming from but that's probably it. I know about the head warping problem and that's because of the oil jets.
