Friend has a 4.8 chev and is needing to turbo it. I have searched the net with no luck, except for places to buy a "kit". They don't give a very good description though of the parts that come with it such as injector size, fuel management, etc. (Probably so people will buy their kit, rather than go out and build their own.) Has anyone on here done this or looked into it?

Thank you
Gary

I have no experience with this engine, although I have experience doing other after market turbocharged vehicles. I am not a fan of "turbo kits" at all. Often they include a Chinese built turbocharger that you could get on ebay for $200 (and no, it won't last), and sometimes the fuel management is mediocre at best. I say build your own. Buy turbo headers, or have some built. Put a big intercooler in it, and fab up some piping.

The biggest thing that's going to hold you back is fuel management. Usually I would choose to go Megasquirt, however for emissions reasons you have to remain OBDII. I, personally, would talk to tuning shops until you can find one who can burn a chip custom to your injector size requirements, MAF requirements (I believe the Chevy V8s are MAF, but I could be wrong), etc.

pro-charger makes a nice supercharger setup for those motors. its not a roots type blower its a centrifugal??? the type that looks like a belt driven turbo. those kits come with everything you need to run. from what i've seen of them they are nice kits. im sure if you look into drag racing teams that are racing turbocharged LS1 style motors you can get some idea on what to run...

The site hasn't been updated in a while as he now runs twins and a lot of other changes...but it gives you some insight. He is running a 6.0L but many of the parts and kits are interchangable between the 4.8/5.4/6.0L.

Fuel Managment = LS1edit I think...which means you buy a cable(or make your own not really sure) and you download software and modify the code...and toss in the injectors requried.
LS1TECH - Powered by vBulletin has a Forced Induction forum and I believe they also have a truck forum.
