Finally doing some work to a 2.5T I bought earlier this year and I have all of the pan bolts pulled so that I can change the gasket but on the drivers side where it mates to the tranny I cannot get it loose. Do I need to remove this retainer cover? Any insight would be helpful as the Chilton's I have sheds no light beyond removing bolts that are visible.

Thx

when my dad and i pulled the pan on my 88 daytona 2.5 it got hung up there too. we were able to work it loose without removing the retainer cover. I can't exactly remember how we did it, but we did it, and were able to work it back in too. Just keep trying, it may come loose.

It is possible to pull the pan out without removing the "dust sheild" but i don't recomend it. When i did mine (2.5TI) i just wiggled it out but when it came time to put it back in it was a PITA I ended up taking the sheild out. Just take the dust sheild out there will be three things holding it in a screw at the bottom (i belive it's a phillips) and two bolts on either side the one on the front is for the motor mount and the shild is wedged between the mount and the tranny don't just pull it out remove the whole bolt.it's worth it especially getting it in there with the new gaskets. Good luck.

In the end you will have to remove it so don't bother trying to get around it, it will cost more time.
