My interest in scoobies
STI yes
WRX no

Dont need a WRX with weak transmission that cant handle bolton mods even with a micro turbo.

Bansheenut's friend is wanting to sell his WRX and buy an srt-4.
Are the trannys in the standard turbo Scoobys really that weak? I've heard as much from others. I was just wondering if the WRX running gear could take low 300whp range or if the STi drivetrain is mandatory at this power level.

I'm happy with my Syclone's turbo/700R4/AWD setup for now but was thinking about getting a WRX wagon in the future for hauling stuff (I dig wagons).

In addition to being more than I want to pay for a car whose looks I don't particularly like, the STi model is just too bathhouse gay looking for me. Honestly, did some 16 year old Grand Torismo fan design that rear wing? And those gold wheels... ugh.

I personally fell in love with TD's because of their extreme, lego like, swapp-ability. My '89 k with an '82 lebaron front end looked mean. I wanted the hood from a 600 and the fenders from a 400, but never got around to it. At over 300,000 miles the bearings desinegrated, and I never got around to putting a tII in it. Sadly franken-k went to the scrap yard. After driving my '97 legacy for a few years I started researching performance. I was very suprised to find that Subarus are very similar to Regan-era, Iococca K-vehicles. With a '90 or newer chasis you can bolt in whatever drive train you want. You have to be prepared for twenty hour harness swap though. The harness swap makes TD and honda harness swaps look like childs-play. With a STi drive train in a '99 2.5rs you can run a mid 11. With no mods on the motor. The parts are alot more expensive than TD's though. Used STi drive train w/less than 50k will set you back $10k to $15k. But that does include 6-speed, brembo brakes and everything underneath a STi. I was amazed at the build comparability to TD's. Subaru offers more bodies now than they ever have-Baja, Impreza, Legacy, Forester, and the Tribeca. Five bodies isn't many.

Not tryin to nit pick here but um... my '89 CSX has both of those on it. Shelby's wonderful little styling touches. Should I be questioning his sexual orientation now? Not that I care cuz I really don't.

Your CSX has an STi type wing? I'll admit that I know very little (for TD guys) about CSXs and other turbo Shelbys. I'm not talking about the standard WRX trunk bump wing like my Spirit R/T had but rather the obnoxious and way too tall grab-on-to-it-so-your-buddy-can-take-you-from-behind bathhouse wing.

As for the gold wheels, I'm not a huge fan of gold, but I think it's the combination of gold and spoked rims that does it for me with the STi. Just my opinion, which is worth very little, I know.

That said, I still wouldn't baulk at a steal of a deal on an STi. I’ve heard what they are capable of with very little work and how stout their running gear is compared to standard WRXs. A replacement trunk and set of normal looking rims (to me, anyway) wouldn’t set an overly opinioned guy like me back much.

But back to the original poster. Yellow or no, it sounds like you got a pretty fun car. I’d take a standard turbo-Scooby any day, especially in these ridiculous Nebraska winters.

So I was pumping gas in my F150 the other day(van is waiting on the last few odds'n'ends) and notice a blonde sitting in a STI. I was checking the situation out and decided to make my move. Turns out she was not just sporting stickers for show, but because she had some work done to it, and could name the stuff done to it. She told me how many pounds of boost she was pushing and the future upgrades. Unable to resist the urge anymore, I pulled out the greatest pick-up line and said, "That's cool, I have a turbo-charged minivan" She laughed at first but once I started rattling the work off, she was totally envious. Needless to say, if I offered to straight up trade her, she would have jumped on it instantly.
