turbo fwd auto has r p n but drive only has high gear wont down shift

blown trans. also its a mitsu so expect bullshit problems like that.

Check all plugs/connetions. Sounds like limp mode. Your 1 drive gear is probably second gear.

...might be a fried trans ecu...

A good friend of mine is a eclipse-talon expert. I'll check with him.

The TCU could possibly be the culprit. To look at it, pull the kick panels on the center console, the TCU would be the box laying horizontal,towards the firewall, as the ECU sits up and down behind the radio. Pull the case off and look for burned or leaking caps. I would start by checking all plugs first though. Our '92 talon auto did the same thing, and it turned out a wire broke sending it into limp mode.
