mistake in Hot Rod????

I don't know if anyone caught this one, I was reading Hot Rod magazine and it had an article about the history-line of turbo charged cars made in America. It showed the GLH and Shelby charger etc. Then, it shows a picture of Carol Shelby standing with a Shelby lancer (I don't remember what year they were). And the caption reads something like " ...the only four door Shelby ever made..." (something similar to that)... HEY, maybe they should look at the picture of the GLH Omni on the same page, wasn't that a 4 door Shelby too ?? I'm sure the Omni was a Shelby car, after all, some of them have his signature on the dash don't they? I think the article was on page 27, not sure of the month but it is the one with the 2 corvettes on the cover (gasser style).

Maybe they consider the omni a 5 door hatch?

think I've read the omni did not - that's prob the point they were trying to make - even if it is "wrong"

Omni GLHS and Lancer both had Shelby written on them. Both are 5 doors.

The GLHS does have Shelby writen on it true. But it has Dodge writen on the hood and hatch. Where as the others don't say Dodge any place, it is what makes the Omni GLHS a little different.

The people writing Hot Rod had a gun to there head when writing that and had no interest in typing it. I enjoy seeing the cars get some ink, were a ways away from expecting any of it to be writen correctly though. Even Shelbys own yearly mag screws up every time....

I jus thought it was funny cause the two cars are pictured on the same page. Does Hot Rod not realize that the name GLHS was created by Shelby. And, of the 2 of them, which one is remembered more. Obviously, it would be the OMNI. Very few can remember the Shelby Lancer. Oh well, another glaring example of Hot Rod/Car Craft bend towards the bowtie/pherd bunch. I'll bet they know all the history of the Camaro in the 80's. Although, of the 2 mags, I think that car craft is better even though they do tend to get the Mopar info wrong sometimes. And Smith is from Iowa so that makes him ok in my book.

first off, you have to understand that a traditional hot rod is rear wheel drive and has 8 cylinders (or more). then on the flip side, you have the young crowd and they are into modern turbo vehicles, preferably foreign, with all their sophistication that just wasn't possible a quarter century ago. ask someone about a Lancer these days, and they think you're talking about a Mitsubishi without the Evo package, not a Chrysler product designed to compete with European sports sedans.

our little fwd turbo Mopars hail from an era most have forgotten about or prefer to forget ever happened (Chrysler included). the fact that these cars were mentioned at all is amazing, but much of that is due to Carrol Shelby's involvement. the better cars only carried his name and the best were purely an evolution of his work....like the Spirit R/T and Iroc R/T. if you want to drive 80's but get noticed, buy yourself a Grand National and call it a day. otherwise, shut up and enjoy your eccentric vehicle choice!

Yep, 500 (all black with gray interiors) of those omni's, aka GLHS, have a dash plaque with his CS's name! just another reason to consider magazines as mere entertainment. I however subscribe to alot of them and enjoy the pics/articles/ads, but I catch alot of mistakes and those are mistakes that I am familiar with, I can only imagine how many mistakes are actually made.
In the history line I hope they acknowledged the '84 Daytona/Laser as the first 2.2 turbo powered vehicles.
