There's also a slight discrepency in nomenclature, wasn't there? We speak of a "Turbo Z" whereas we know of the TD car as a "Shelby Z", correct?

NO, they were "Turbo Z" cars, and the "C/S" package was available in 1986.

Yes, T/A's were turbo'd before 1989.
Well duh, the DOG-A$$-SLOW-301s, but they were TRANS AMS, NOT FORUMLAS as I stated, in repsonse to the "turbo Formula" statement above. As the owner of Several Trans Ams over the yeras, including my current 99 30th Anniversary TA, I'm a little versed in the Pontiac history.
Not to come off like a jerk, but if people start spouting off misinformation on Shelby's here, people take offense.

Ok, sorry. I do see that there was "Turbo Z" package available. I was just asking if it was named as such and wasn't just another buzzword.

Any more question, school's in! LOL
That's debateable The TTA was definitely faster as it had no speed limiter. The pace car at the track during testing was clocked at 171mph on the straight. As far as the quickest, depends on driver. I never ran my TTA stock but numbers from 13.1-14.0 were had back in the day. Pontiac claimed 13.5 as an average. Mine went 13.0 with a chip, thermostat and K&N. So it would have been "average" or better. You hear about the rare 12 second LS1, just a handful. I know of one TTA that ran 12.9 bone stock but that was a on a well prepared track.

So its a toss up.

12 sec LS1 cars aren't that rare, esp the 01 and 02s. The LS1 also have plenty o pedal left after the 167 limiter.

Any LS1 F-Body was a rarity to break into the 12's bone stock. Easy to get there but rare stock. We have bolt on LS1's running mid 11's around here

Very true about the faster than limiter but then it wouldn't be stock anymore So a TTA was the fastest stock F-Body.
