some of the pontiac formulas were turbo too.

Pretty cool. Didn't know they made them. My bud had one of those Turbo TransAms, ahem, in the early 90's, screaming eagle hood, 307 cid, no get up and go but once it got over 100 km/h, it would pull forever, great top end, we outran a cop going to Penticton, was awesome! :big grin:

Ya I knew of these cars. I am part of a Camaro club too. They were not anything like the turbo firebirds. The firebirds were 307cid and the Yenko's were 350cid's. The 81 Yenko Camaro Z28 in stage 1 or 2 are a FAST and handle very well too. If You see one in person you are vary lucky.

THEY ARE NOT GM CARS!! They were modified by Yenko, and I don't believe this was COPO deal like the original Yenkos in the 60s.
Also Formulas DID NOT get turbocharged. They made 1500 20th Anniversary Trans Ams, withe 3.8 Grnad National motor ir 1989 to commemorate the 20th anniversay of the origanl 69 Trans Am. Up until the LS1 in 98, they were the quickest and fastest Trans Am made. The 1999 30th Trans Am was teh fastest Anniversary TA made, as well as the last. Excellent cars, at least I like mine!
Any more question, school's in! LOL

Correct, these cars were modified by Don Yenko and could be ordered through the dealership much like the present where your were able to go in and order cars modified by Roush, SLP etc...companies who have contracts with the auto maker. Don Yenko even modified limited versions of Camaros, Nova's and Chevelle's. They are highly rare and expensive along with the COPO camaro's. These got the SYC logo's (Super Yenko Camaro)

You are probably thinking of the 79-81 turbo trans am, with the 301 turbo. What a complete POS that engine was, plus reliability issues to boot. Most people around here dropped in a 400 big block, and called it a day, while there are still a couple un-modded cars around, but they aren't very common.

Thats exactly what i was talking about. I know it was underpowered and not reliable but for someone that didnt grow up in that era i thoght it was cool. Btw did you see the one episode of dream car garage with the 80 t/a that was baised of the stock car at that time. It was bought off of the lot then torn apart then built up. I cant give the full specs but it reved to 7 or 8000 rpms! Wow! If i find it ill post it.
