i was helping my sister search for a beater car, since she is currently without transportation, and i ran across something interesting. one of the buy here pay here's we stopped at was selling a 95 hyundai s-coupe for pretty cheap, i didn't really pay attention to the badging or interior at first, but the second i popped the hood it hit me 'holy sh1t, this thing's a turbo!'. the engine was a little odd, a 12 valve four cylinder with the smallest turbo i have ever seen in my life. there was noone at the lot, so i didn't get to drive it and i don't really know anything else about: displacement? power? etc. i wasn't even aware that hyundai built turbo cars. do any of you guys have any experience with these? are they reliable? my sister is pretty hard on her cars. any common problems i should look for? any help would be appreciated, thanks

A 95 would be a hyundai turbo motor based of a mitsubishi motor. The early 90,91 was the Mitsubishi 1.6 turbo.

I was trying to find a early Hyundia for some parts for my project colt.

those things are pretty cool little cars.. may want to consider parts availability as the ultimate deciding factor. if i wasnt brand biased in any way and i was looking for a fun, cute little car for cheap, especially one thats unique, id be all over it.

anyway, same as any other not quite modern turbo car, mbc and you'll gain some good power.

well, i guess you could just buy it, crank the boost, and collect parts for a 4g63 swap while you're waiting

lol, Those Hyundai S coupe Turbos were obsolete when they were built, built with the cheapest parts and the cheapest materials. Be very very careful, you are buying a potentialy dangerous car. Check the fuel and brake lines, as well as the conditon of any vacum lines or anything rubber. I don't want to hear about you sister getting hurt because of one of those cars. I had two people in my graduating class in 2000 who died 2 days before graduation when they bought a brand new Hyundai, it was involved in a low speed accident with a pickup truck, the car burst into flames and they burned to death. Suposedly their quality has goten better, but I just don't trust them.
