the FE is a decent motor, just a bit on the expensive side, you can build a good 460 for less money, and make more power. as for the comment about stock heads, yeah most of em do suck, but there are afew that dont, and i know afew guys running 10s on the '66 mustang 289 heads, and the early 460 heads (C9OE, D0OE, D0VE, etc...) are fairly good.
im not sure which series had more displacements
FE; 332,352,360,390,406,410,427,428
SBC;262,265,267,283,302,305,307,327,350,400
looks like the SBC takes it
lol

Although not available installed from the factory, the 383 is available from GM parts counter. Add another for SBC

True on some points but were talking FE, not Windsor or Cleveland. FE had the worst heads, they were awful. Edelbrocks aluminium heads are awesome, wish my friend had the money to try them out on his 390.

Edelbrock heads are awesome. Edelbrock has found new horsepower in a lot of old engines. Pontiac, Olds and yes even Fords

Good luck finding a side oiler block for those heads...
Yes FE heads are poor until you run into the 427 stuff, then you're talkin'. Still rare stuff these days. Edelbrock heads look very similar to some of the raised port 427's, obviously "tweaked" with the newer knowledge we have about port flow.
