Were they available in the US though? I don't think they were, if memory serves. I've been out of the Porsche world for a while now.

Audi and VW use KKK turbos. I have a bunch of them laying around here.

BTW Sell the N/A and get a turbo but be prepared to spend money on parts. Matter of fact let me know if you need parts and I will hook you up thru our Porsche Division

Yep I know for fact Audi, VW, and Porsche all use KKK turbo's. I know that the stock turbo's on 00-02 S4 Biturbo's when chipped and not let to spool down correctly didn't last long.

Not even worth trying to convert it to a turbo cause they are almost different cars. I owned a 89 944 Turbo S the last year of 944 turbo's in the US. Turbo S's were made from 88-89 only in 89 they were just called Turbo, but they were all Turbo S's in 89. 944 Turbo's were made from 86-89. Turbo S's had adjustable suspension, limited slip diff, and larger Brembo brakes (if I remember right off of the 928) and of course more power. The earlier turbo's were less hp, but there are chips, and lots of upgrades around. If you like td's for their cheapness you aren't going to like a Porsche cause they aren't cheap at all.

951 is 944 Turbo and 944 S2, not a 968. 968's came out in 93 when 944's stopped production in 90 with the only available 944 being an 944 S2 in the US. There was a turbo 968 called a 968 Club Sport not Turbo S and it was only made for european markets and less then 40 were ever built mainly due to the fact it was faster then a 911 Turbo of the same year and it was designed for a race series that quickly folded. The CLub Sports are so rare that you can't even find parts through Porsche's parts system even on the european side.

The 968 CS is a stipped out version of the 968 with stiffer suspension. It still has the same motor as the regualr 968.. it is to the 968 as the RS America 911 is to the regular 911. The turbo 968 is indeed called the Turbo S, it shares the 968 CS interms of suspensions and adds the turbo motor, its the street version of the 968 Turbo RS which was the all out race car-hence what the 993 GT2 was to the regular 993TT.

Except the fact one major difference from what you said. Its got a 3.0L 16V turbo engine .....which is what made that car extremely rare and extremely hard to get parts for. I know a guy who imported and original euro spec 90 951 Turbo S and even rare is the 968 Turbo S (the name I am wrong about) chasis he also has. You could buy just the bare chasis and prep it for racing is which what his car is. If it was just a 2.5L 8V then it would be the same as a 944 Turbo S, but it isn't. I know one of the biggest things about the 968 Turbo S is that the powertrain was completely unique to it which is why trying to find parts for one is impossible...........you'd have better luck finding parts for a 959 then a 968 Turbo S and trust me slow nights and nothing to do except playing around on Porsche's parts computer on the euro side I was never able to even find anything that even showed that a 968 Turbo S existed.

Anyway the Body is in pretty good shape, the interior is a bit of a mess, broken switches, loose seats, cracked dash.
I know the later 944's had a 250hp turbo engine so I was wondering if anyone has some tips on converting this one to a turbo car?
I imagine it would cost me an arm and a leg to use Porsche parts.

So what do you guys think?
Hey MachIII,

$2700 isn't a 'bad' price for that car, assuming its good underhood (and out back). $5000 is enough for a ratty 951 or a really nice 944. I'm hoping to get close to that for my 944 when I put it up for sale later this summer...

Best use for the car you bought is to drive the snot out of it. You'll love it. Yeah you'll wish it had more power, but hit some mountain curves and you'll ignore that soon enough.

Sorry
http://www.qv500.com/porsche968p3.php

More specifically this paragraph:
Quote:
Based on the critically acclaimed normally aspirated Club Sport, the Turbo S featured firmer springs and dampers plus thicker anti-roll bars, ride-height being dropped by an additional 20mm. The braking system was beefed-up with four-piston alloy calipers and cross-drilled and internally ventilated discs from the 3.6-litre 964 Turbo S. This 964 of the same name also donated 18-inch three-piece cast alloy Speedline Cup Design wheels, these originally being shod with Dunlop Sport 8000 tyres (235/40 ZR 18's to the front and 265/35 ZR 18's at the rear). Clearly the biggest difference between the sublime Club Sport and this brawnier homologation special though was the presence of a solitary KKK turbocharger. To accomodate it, Porsche were forced to ditch the superb Variocam system found on normally aspirated 968's and instead adopted an old eight-valve head from the forced induction 944. Similarities with the 944 Turbo didn’t end there, these new Typ M44/60 engines retaining an identical 8.0:1 compression ratio. Crack DME sequential multi-point fuel-injection brought things right up to date, displacement remaining identical to the engines found in normally aspirated 968's at 2990cc

just for the record. you could special order a 968 turbo. BUT it did not have the 16 valve head. it was the same head as the previous 944 but was 3 litres and only had 8 valves.
