My friend had one in high school. FAST little car. Handled like a champ too. We had a blast in that car. no know for reliability though. He bought his for $600 and spent $1200 in just over a year keeping it running. They are notoious for the inside of the fuel tankl rusting and clogging the fuel fiters. and they are a pain to work on.

Hahahha, doesn't have to worry about that, it doesn't have one,

But seriously, there fun and fast but parts are scarce and obsolete. I have a customer with one and it uses 2 injectors in the throttle body. One injector went bad and shuts down the computer. I can't find one anywhere, new or used! Her car is now sitting.

We had to go scrounging junk yards in the middle of nowhere to find parts. By the time we got done with Jimmy's car it was a frankenstein of 80-84 models....lol. We had fround this one yard in Youngsville, NC that had like 40 different ones.

Ya i wondered that too when i saw it, apparently its to switch the tranny between high gear mode, and short gear mode (one for the track, and one for economy). So basically its an 8 speed. Its really neat.

Can't you swap the 2.0 turbo motors from DSM's into those things? Would at least take care of the obsolete engine parts..

From what I understand, with the 89 colt turbo, you can swap a 90 dsm motor/harness in with little trouble. I think all else is a little more work, but i could be wrong.

It is probably not too hard to do a 2.0 mitsu swap. I am sure that if someone searched they could find info on the swap process for an 84, which is not a direct bolt in as the 89 which uses a 1.8l but with identical mounts as the 2.0l turbo.

If the price is right this would be fun and it technically a dodge too.

Correct, its literally a bolt in and the 89 colt comes with a 1.8L version of the famed 4g63.

Yes you can do a 4g63 swap. I was going to do it into an 86 colt, but the garage the I was getting the car from couldn't get the papers for it. Look around for a forum named 4g61t.com for a message board.

I owed a 84 turbo colt for many years. These cars are a blast to drive, as they are very light (2000 lbs or so). They need a little sway bar and tire help to put them into GLH handling territory. Mine consistantly was a mid 14 second car with the addition of 2-3/8" mandrel bent exhaust and running the boost to 12 PSI. These cars have a very small turbo, and have virtually zero lag. Car got 30+ MPG in city or hwy. Need to be lucky with that twin stick tranny. A self locking $2 nut had a bad habit of working it's way loose. Happen quite often on these cars. If that happens you loose the economy gate (overdrive) but it doesn't make the car inoperable. Tranny removal and teardown is required to fix.
The steel rear bumpers on the car rusted very easily. Sort of like the failed anodizing plating on the GLH's. Earlier colts (81 or 82) used aluminum bumpers. They completely bolt on and are less than half the weight.
All in all, I found these cars to be very dependable and fun to drive. I too saw that turbo colt on Ebay. Doesn't look like it has that few of miles. I'd be a little skeptical of mileage.

I thought the 84-86 turbo colts had a 1.6 turbo in it and 88-89 had the 1.8 in it. I used to have an 89 N/A colt and I was planning on swapping in a 2.0 4g63 so I went to the junkyard and found an 85 Turbo colt and it had a 1.6.

I was also informed when considering the swap, that using the 2 injector/ throttle body sucks for performance. Just like the conquest they are limiting.

My 2 cents

the 1.8 is the 4g61. if i ever get another dsm it will be a 2.0 4g63 in a colt. its a pretty much direct swap and there is endless info about it online..

mmm colt and omni
