It totally slipped my mind to ask him. Duhhh!

He has an '88 minivan as well, he could give us the answer first shot.

I sent him an email, hopefully he is around.

Well I heard from Rob and this is what he had to say...

I never had an underdrive pulley on my setup. It was one of those
things on my to do list that never happened. Either FM's or BPE's
pulley will work. Pick your pulley and install it on the van. The
provided belt will not work as the early vans used a different style
tensioner so you will need to find a long peice of twine to use to
figure out the size of belt you will need to purchase at the parts
store. Your van uses a 5 groove belt and the pulley will use a 6 groove
belt. You can use the 5 groove belt with the 6 groove pulley just make
sure the belt starts at the innermost groove leaving the outermost
groove showing. I ran a 6 groove stock pulley for a long time like this
and never threw a belt. You could always change out the ps pump and alt
pulleys with 6 groove ones. both the 5 groove and 6 groove pulleys are
the same diameter.

So it is possible!!

Also I did some searching and found an overdrive aluminum alternator pulley.

Now, this is for a 3000GT/Stealth 3.0. Are the alternators similiar between the Chryler & Mitsu 3.0's?

The other option is to use an OBX Underdrive Pulley set which would change the Alternator, Power Steering pulleys to the six groove style.

Which poses another question, are the 24-valve and 12-valve SOHC 3.0 pulleys similar?

I've talked with Nick about this recently and the earlier(before 91 I think) 3Ls ran a 5rib single idler pulley setup. The later versions of the 3L run a 6rib dual idler pulley setup. BUT you can put a 6rib crank pulley on your 5rib system if you make DOUBLY SURE that everything is lined up correctly and the belt doesn't walk back and forth over that outside groove. On my supercharger setup I ran a 5rib serp belt on the Super's 8rib pulley and it didn't walk at all EVER.

The 24 valve pulley will not work with the 12 valve motor. I've had an UDP sitting next to a stock MMC pulley, they aren't even close to being the same depth.
