Heck yeah.. Just make sure you put a swirl port head on the TBI block, or your compression will be low and power will suck.

yes you can... the compression ratios between a TBI 2.5 and a TBI 2.2 or 2.2 carb non HO or non Shelby are nearly the same. the 2.5 is 8.9:1 and a 2.2 is 9.0:1, your carb intake will bolt right on, you'll need to change some sensors to plug into the cars wire harness, but this is a bolt in swap. I would suggest ditching the feedback carb and go with a Weber DGV... or even get a caravan or dakota carb, they are non-feedback.

i noticed you said the 2.2 had more compression does that mean i could make more power with a carbed 2.2 or 2.5 ???

i guess you didn't see that the 2.2 is 9:1 and a 2.5 is 8.9:1 so that is so insignificant.

Yeah, a .1 difference is jack.. You can get that from surfacing the head a hair too much.

so should i stay with the 2.2 or the 2.5 ?? remember the car has to have a auto trans in it

Well depending on what you want to do you could mix and match some parts. For instance the 87 and 88 2.5's can use 2.2 pistons. You could use some of the Carb flat tops in it, or mill the block .043" and use early T1 pistons with a G-head. Your cr would be 9.83 to 1. You might want to see what you want to do with the gearing of the trans. You might want to look into taking control of the timing also.

86-88 2.5 has the EXACT same pin height as the 2.2 so if you use a 2.5 from this era you can easily increase the compression to 11:1... however these engines are approximiately 5/8" taller block so hood clearance my come into play on the carburator. If you use a 2.5 common block, the deck height is exactly the same as all previous 2.2 engines but a flat top piston conversion is a bit more involved (cost or machining) if you have access to a 2.5 cheap, I'd use it in your car, it won't hurt what so ever and you will notice the extra 20 or so ft lbs of torque even though the only difference in hp is just a couple... the torque is very noticeable in a positive perspective.
