I'm just kind of curious if anyone could tell me or point me to a place where I could find some info on what's involved in converting a newer TBI engine to a late Model carb setup. Since the Mopar 2.2 manual says that if you wanna go hardcore with performance on these engines and still be NA that you should switch to a carb setup.

intake manifold, carb that's the easy part. bad part is ignition system. the BEST and easiest is to take a 1.7 VW distributor and with minor modifications use it. this way you have mechanical advance. if you are using this engine for circle track racing, you don't need to have advance curve on the distributor and could use the stock distributor with a ford TFI ignition module or a VW module.

I'd go Megasquirt fuel injection (About $150) with a turbo intake manifold ('88+ 1piece multipoint injection).. FAR better than a carb.

I was just under the impression that a carbed 2.2/2.5 was easier to work with when you add performance versus a TBI setup. Is this entirely true or have a lot of you guys had some pretty good success with the modified TBI engines.

I've never tried to get more performance out of a TBI car. I did try on a carb car, '87 Turismo Duster.. It was a nightmare, I went through about 9 different carbs trying to get one that would run properly, consistantly. Finally just gave up. When I got my next carb'd car, my '83 Shelby Charger, I ran it on the carb for about a week, saw the same old symptoms, so I yanked the head and swapped on a '88 Turbo 1 intake, and ran Megasquirt on the car. Ran great for over a year before the bottom end let go due to high compression and low octane gas making a bad combo.
