I might be getting a 91 3.0 /604 tona to put my 90 3.0 5sp in from my tona. Will i have to change wireharness? Computers? Will they plug right in?? Can i just leave the 90 harness in the car and just use the 5sp trans??? What would i do with the plug from the 604 trans?
Any input would be great.

Well don't hold me to this, but....
I have found out that the 90 and 91 engine controllers are different part numbers for the 5spd cars, and that appears to hold true for the automatic cars as well, so I'm pretty sure the entire engine wiring harness/computer will need to be swapped to the proper year engine/trans/computer setup.
I have a 91 V6 5spd Daytona ES, and I have been looking for spare parts "just in case". I would be very interested in what some of the others here have to say about this. As best as I can tell, the 91 stuff doesn't interchange with either the earlier or the later years, in regards to computers stuff. Not sure about the wiring or body computers though.

Hopefully someone here with more knowledge on this subject can shed a little light for us V6 5spd guys.

you can take the computer out and i beleve there is somewhere that tells what wires to use for the nuetral safty swithc and the reverse lights. the harness need not be changed. just make sure you have all the components BEFORE doing the conversion. nothing like haing to wait a ouple days couse you forgot about something little.

Moparbishi,
Just to clairify...are you saying that an auto computer can be easily modded to work for a 5spd car? That would be nice, as finding 3.0 5spd cars is no where as easy as finding 3.0 auto cars.
Aren't there wires for the converter lockup that would need to be dealt with?

Also, do you know what changed between the 90 and 91 computers, and how hard it would be to reverse engineer the mod? There is a 90 or 91 3.0 5spd Daytona locally that I know of....that I would like to snag the drivetrain from, as well as the computer stuff. If it's a 91...then I've got no problems. If it's a 90, I would like to know if it's worth grabbing any of the computer stuff for mine as a spare part, or if it's completely different.

Sorry 'bout the thread hijack.

yes the comp is the same i would just stick to the 90 stuff. i think that 90-91 used the same cpm actually. 92 was mpfi. u can grab the harness for the tranny and plug ut directly iin and take out the auto harness and tranny comp. some people have complained about poor idle but most have said that using a auto engine comp is just fine. the tranny isnot controlled by the engine comp. it is controlled by the tranny comp.

auto computer can be used on the manual. Frank and I did that swap in college. timing is retarded at WOT with the manny computer. the auto computer retards it after 30 sec. (verified with an otc scanner) but you are rev limited at 5800 (no big deal)

SO io can just use my 90 5 sp comp in the 91 car and it will plug in and run??? That would be sweet. And one thing on the auto comp "if i have to use it" If i rember right with the turbo cars if you use a auto comp in a 5sp it will stahl sometimes when comming up to a stop??? Will i have to worrie bout this? No big as it will be a stick and i will just let the clutch out and start it before i come to a stop.

Yeah but at least i will be inside the car out of the cold most of the time while doing that. I will just unbolt the seat and sit it out so i have lots oh room. The motor, trans will be a pain since my dad has a 68 mustang and a 66 vert tbird in the pole barn so no room for me in there to do the swap.

I am hoping to go get the outher tona tonight, or tomrow morning. then start on it as soon as i get it home.

Um........rev limit is the same, auto/manual computer.
Speed limiter is a tiny bit higher on the manual computer.

I run an auto computer with my 5 speed. I just put a 88 motor in my 94 spirit. As long as you use the pulley system from the newer motor, everythign will be fine
94 motor is going in my 92 duster. I dont have an engine harness or computer for that car though

well today i got out and started working on the swap. And all a sudden i had to double check the center console it has the tall consoule in it. SO i looked at the door and it says it was built in 7 89. So my 91 that i just got is really a 90. So all my stuff from my 5sp car should be a direct fit for sure then. Dam i got lucky on finding another 90 LOL.
