ok my stepfather is rebuilding his 84 shelby charger. the carb is the one thing that we dont know where to go with being that this is the first time dealing with a non turbo. we have the mopar jet kit for the stock holley but ive been reading there is a weber u can put on it? i wanted to supercharge it but the direct connection kit is almost impossible to find. could someone give me some possibilities on what we can do for it. like which carb to get and how it affects the intake manifold whether it needs to be modified or not? also... i read somewhere that there was a HO engine in some cars? is there a way i can tell if the original engine is one and if its better to use this block or can go with another carb block that i have for it.

For carbs, a weber 32/36 will bolt up... it's the carb the holly was designed off of and is really a better flowing and more reliable carb. I have also used a weber 38/38 with some success, it offered a broader powerband, but not really much more up top.

The major difference between the HO and standard motors is that the block has been decked for higher compression. If you're re-building a motor it really won't matter which motor you start with, just blueprint it to 10.5:1 compression and you'll effectively have the same this as if you found a HO engine with all the factory tolerences in your favour.

It depends on your carburetor, some of them are setup for electric, some aren't. If you're looking for a bolt on, the DFEV is the same orientation (throttle linkage is on the right side, fuel line goes in roughly the same area). The DGEV will work, but you'll have to massage the throttle linkage and such to make it fit.

You will run into one small issue, all 2.2L engines except early minivans were feedback carburetor and computer spark advance. Even the mins had spark computers. If you want to get away from the computer, you will need a different distributor and ignition control.

This is true but the shelby spark comp has a knock sensor added I do believe.

If your looking for some easy and cheap power adders for your shelby I took my the the head and carb intake off my 83 1/2 and they are aleady gaskey matched and the head has the 460/460 duration cam. They are sitting in my garage in a storage bag LMK

The carbed shelby chargers have the HO engine. The HO engines have non-feedback carbs, and a different spark control computer which includes a knock sensor.

on our circle track car we ran a weber carb using the shelby comp quite successfully.... the knock sensor is dead simple to install if your manifold doesen't allready have one. It's just a matter of tapping one hole and threading it in. Previous to the swap we ran a '85 feedback carb electrical system with the carb electronics zip tied to the side and by looking at the scan tool it didn't cause any issues witht the spark curve.

Just be aware not all the ecu connectors are the same for the carb cars... you'll have to match your wiring harness to the ECU you're using.
