Check this out. MP 767 cam(Shelby cam gear), hedman (1 3/4'' primaries 3'' collector) hedder, 2.25'' strait pipe(glasspacks dont count, right?),and the stock head milled .030'', the car is other wise a stock '84 GLH HO. What kinda power increase are you guys thinking? I was hoping for about 450 at the wheels, but I think that might be stretching it! : )

Also do you think Ill need a different timing belt or tensioner?

Thanks!

The old HO's Used to make 107-110HP

im gonna guess your car probably has like 130-150hp at the MOST. Youll never get a 2.2 all motor to make 450hp. Get nitrous or turbo. You shouldnt need a different belt or tensioner, but from milling the head and a different cam, i think you might be able to get some extra power from an adjustable timing gear. What kind of carb are u running?

P.S-Isnt the 767 cam for turbo cars?

The 450hp was a joke. Im not one of thos ehonda guys that thinks a throttle body gives 38hp. The 767 cam is for the N/A engines it is a 460 lift cam. Im running the stock Holley carb and please dont try to convince me to get a weber.

Ok i was kind of wondering about the 450hp haha. The stock holley carb isnt bad, webers are good too. I think the adj. cam gear is still a good idea

allmotor got a N/A car up to about 380hp i think....but it did have like a $2000 crank among lots of other goodies

450 at the wheels is definately possible with a 16v turbo

Im hoping for somewhere between 130hp-140hp at the crank. Id really like to run consistant 16.0s in the 1/4 mile.

130-140HP should net you 16's at the track with a 5sp. If you cut .030 off that head, you'll be sitting at 10:1 on a HO engine. That's a fair amount of compression, make sure your ignition timing and octane level will handle it. IMO cutting the head .030 will only give you an increase of maybe 4HP, as IIRC, the rule of thumb is every .5 of compression you add is worth a 4% increase on power, so you'd have to add 1-1.5 points to your CR to see any real noticeable gains, which would probably be around 15HP if you went up to 11:1, which is pretty high already. High compression doesn't make much HP on it's own, it's higher compression used in conjunction with a higher duration cam that does it. I think I'd spend the money on back cut valves and I'd try my hand at possibly porting the head a bit before I spent the money on milling the head, from an already respectable 9.5:1, but hey, do what you want.

I still do think that the intake manifold/carb choices on these cars isn't the best. I always thought of the idea of modding an intake to accept a small 4bbl carb, or at least a bigger(and simplier designed) 2bbl carb, lol.
