plz help

84 plymouth turismo ..carbed 35,000 , roller cam, 2.2 auto ...Hi all.......I am having a really bizzarr problem....checked the timing belt today
and all was on cue distrubutor out and and all marks aligned on bell housing and cam to intermediate shaft, crank..all good......BUT.. when I go to time the engine at 12 she bogs and has no power....so I tried 16 deg the same..the only way I can get her to go with no hesitation is to set her to past the 18 mark on the bell.Runs better and doesnt ping at all ......yes I have double checked all marks twice just to be sure....any ideas..running rich maybe...It is a carbed non feedback system and I pulled and plugged the hose at the scc..anyone got a hint?

Thanks
Robb

Did you align to the MARK on the intermediates shaft as shown in Fig. 11 or did you aligh to the elongated slot on the gear?

You can also pull the distributor and see if the slot is parallel with the front of the block. That little mark on the gear face is sometimes very hard to see, but that is what needs to align with the mark on the crank.

Did you disconnect the vacuum hose to the computer? This reverts the timing back to base timing. If you don't, you will be trying to set computer adjusted timing back to base specs and it will be a total dog. Disconnect the hose & set base timing. It won't run very well at this point. Reconnect the hose and it will perk right up.

Correct ingition timing is: warm up the engine then while running, pull both vacuum hose to SCC transductor can (plug the hose) and coolant sensor (for computer, 3 pin type). Then you can time it properly. When done shut down and reconnect both, unhook battery for few minutes.
