the area around plug 3 of my omni glh is leaking, it is a minor leak.

What would cause this? I want to replace all the plugs and wires, what should I buy?

by "area around" do you mean where the spark plug goes into the head?
By "leaking" do you mean oil?

You shouldn't be leaking any fluids from there at all. Check to make sure your spark plug isn't loose. Maybe it's leaking from the valve cover? or the head gasket (weird, but idk). Need info

yes, it is leaking at the socket. Not horribly though. I was cleaning the engine w/ some degreaser and started it up after to listen and see if there were any noticable leaks, some from the valve cover, which means I need a new head gasket, and some from the 3rd cylindar's spark plug socket. It could be just air/gas escaping, perhaps it is not tight enough. I neglected to check at the time.

I'm a novice here...the chrome valve cover on the GLH, is leaking around the gasket..whatever gasket that is, that is a valve cover isn't it?

There is an obvious leak of SOMETHING from the 3rd cylindar sparkplug socket w/ the sparkplug in there. There was some liquid sitting at the base and it was oscillating. It appeared to be going down into the socket, then coming back out. Not much, but enough that it is noticable to even me.

Liquid is brown, could be oil, could be degreaser and oil, etc. But it was moving, so at the very least there is air moving in and out at that spot.

Clean the entire area again- clean enough that you would eat off of it. Then spray it down with some powder or cheap deodorant (the white kind, not clear). Start it up and watch for the leak.

I've seen and heard of cyl heads (especially on the old carb 2.2s) actually cracking around the spark plug recess. Hope that's not the case here!

A shit, I hope not... Will give it another look tomorrow. It didn't look like anything was cracked on the outside.

Uh...I've been working on these engines since 1981, never ever have I seen the spark plug hole crack,,,,seen stripped and cross threaded, but never cracked. now if you were talking quad 4, them always crack from over tightening the plugs.

allmotor, that makes me feel better.

I may have my mom's business sponsering the car a bit, that money would be going into an engine rebuild, or at the very least a good tune up, plugs, wires, gaskets, and the rest into the suspension mods.

Why don't you just go out to your car with a plug socket and a ratchet and see if it's tight enough? Best case scenario the plug is loose. Worse case would be the threads in the head are stripped.

I didn't say the spark plug hole cracks, it's the recess above the actual spark plug. With the plug installed in the head, the area to watch out for is above the plug's insulator. I've had three 287 and 445 heads have that problem. Do a search on here and I'll bet you'll find other people that have had this problem too.

must be a fluke... never seen that one, just did a search and no TSB's either, must be only turbo dodge board members with that problem... but then it seems to be a plague on here.
