5-speed is a godsend for mileage (look at the disparity in numbers between the MT & AT cars).

Since mine is a carb, I tapped a port near the front passenger's side of the carb. Any manifold vacuum source that will distribute ozone evenly between all the cylinders will work.

I recently had to put another TBI unit on my car. The previous unit cracked at the base. Noticed the car was quite sluggish after this. Idling poorly and such. Turns out the timing and fuel are fine. The Idle screw needed adjusting. Car runs much better now, as though it had a pair. Debating on bolting up a 5 speed.

Carlton- a520's are almost given away free, so go with it.
mike- I second the 'way you drive theory' I get kinda foot heavy at times. I did a little experiment. If a light was red, instead of speeding up to it, stopping and nailing the gas whe it was green I would just let off the gas let the car slow on its own, and if it changed just lightly apply the gas until i get my speed back. Most people nail the gas half way down until they reach speed then let off. I would just slightly accelerate pushing the gas down maybe an inch until the car reached speed. Let the car do its job, you can hold the gas and it will gradualy gain speed, you dont have to keep pushing down more until you get where you want. Anyways with all that said, i can get 30-40 miles more out of a tank of gas.

not quite as well....520 has milder final drive ratio.

i'm concerned about folks w/ a 2.5 n/a 5spd car getting low 20's for fuel mileage. that setup should be good for 30-35mpg, unless you drive at 75 all day....the speed limit is 65 you know. and most cars get best fuel mileage at about 50mph!

as for stop light driving, i dont nail the gas / stomp on the brake. i drive in a more linear fashion, so i know even my big buick lesabre 3.8 is getting better mixed driving fuel mileage than you guys are reporting.

on my previous car, a 91 dynasty 2.5tbi auto combo, i once got 31.7mpg. and i dont do an excessive amount of highway driving.

91 spirit 2.5l n/a 3 speed auto

this tank included about 200 miles back and forth to carlisle and the other 200 was mixed city/highway. the carlisle miles i goin 85mph most of the time, the rest were hard miles....what would usually be a 21mpg tank

i got 27.5 mpg! which means the carlisle miles i was getting over 30mpg!

mods include: 2" exhaust with dynomax super turbo muffler, gutted and sealed airbox with CAI, 2 TB spacers, ozone generator, platinum plugs

an omni with a 2.5, mpi, 2" free flow exhaust, and a 520 or 523 with 3.50 final gear will make a great sporty commuter car!

actually, my dad could get 37mpg on his 81 k wagon 2.2 carb 4spd. the 4spd had a 3.13:1 final drive at best, so thats turning faster than a 3.02 auto w/ lockup. i'm hoping my intercooled 2.5 auto w/ lockup, IC, good exhaust, etc should get over 30mpg regularly. i got 32mpg w/ a dynasty 2.5 n/a and lockup!!

I'm also a firm believer in the "driver" theory. I generally get around 24-26 city, and I've gotten around 38 highway with my 88 Aries 2.2L TBI. The only mod I have is a "massively ghetto rigged intake" as many of my friends have said. Then again, that was before the new fuel pump, now I get around 20 city. (Note to self- Avoid shops that don't like that you know what you're talking about)

My '93 Shadow ES with a V6 / 604 automatic gets 24 mpg consistently as a work car. It's about a 60/40 split between highway and around town miles.

It used to get 23 mpg, but then I ported the intake, added a K&N air filter, and put in a 2-1/2" exhaust system with no cat. Picked up 17 WHP (to 150 now), and get an extra 1 mpg.

I just made a 760 mile round trip from central, wi to Springfield IL. TBI w/5 speed. going down I drove my usual TD mentality way.... WOT 75-80 averaged 38mpg. driving back 68 mph 70 max.. pulled 47mpg. so driving like a moron consumes more fuel... huh, who woulda thunk it?

What the hell.

I get 22mpg in my 2.5 TBI 523 shadow, no matter how grandmotherly I drive. New 02 sensor and headgasket (although that doesnt matter), and I get no codes.

I get about 26- 28 highway, never really check my around town milage but its pretty stingy. I averaged about 17 pulling a daytona on a car dolly.

She does only weigh about 2850 when i went to the scale I was expecting it to weigh about 3500, scary to know the car I was towing weighed more than the truck I was driving !

Oh yea guess i should mention its a 88 carbed 2.2 dakota 5 speed base model

I had a little sohc neon that got 33 with me beating the crap out of it daily. good car. lol.

anyways, I think alot of our milage figures vary because some of us live where it is flat... and others are always driving up hills (me). I was so furstrated when I got my first td because it got about 26mpg, and then relized that it wasnt the car, it was the roads. Always up a hill around here.
